ha ha..Indian Girls aren't lucky. Hindu guy should call Pakistanis in India as have lot things similar much better then neighboring countries rather then English people which are extreme vulnerable.

Again wisdom has nothing to do with age. You could be dumb at age of 60 year old and you could be smart at young age.. stop making such sweeping generalisation :D
Nope. You are definitely intelligent, just need time to cultivate greatness :)

Now cheer up, good night!

.
Although i agree with you, but i wasn't talking just about the city but general. If a woman do not want to wear veil, then she should have the option not to, and so on...

sure i agree with you here. If women wear veil by forced then it don't serve any purpose because they will throw it away as soon as they get out of the house

.
Ok, you might be the handful from Kensington. If you're then we've met!

Nope...good try :)

Don't like crowded London :)

Not all women...but yes some would

WHAAAAAAAT? :pop:

Good night, dear! :)

PS. I hate arguing online, I could've spent this time with a real person. Note to myself: Don't OPEN YOUR computer :drag:

I rest my case. For today! :D

Cheer up!

Mate, you need "controlled landing," i.e, gradual liberalization.

Start very very small: Allow women to drive... Ten years later: Allow them freedom of movement alone (travel etc etc).... 5 years later: Allow them to work.....

How does that sound? I know your women studying in West, they are pretty bright cookies, gifted with a BALANCED and logical mind, they will understand the slow progress, talk to them!

Trust me I would love nothing more than to have a truly liberal country with understanding of the word "Civil Liberties". But Alas I know my society all too well to expect sudden change like that. In the 70s the government tried the sudden change approach and they had Islamists rioting in the East, Qaseem and the famous Grand Mosque Seizure because of it.

So they went the other way entirely to protect their sorry a$$ from revolts and went over-religious fanaticism and got Al-Qaeda, Taliban and 9/11 to show for it. (Complete idiocy in both cases) .

So now they are injecting Liberlization into the society. Again the word (City) here refer to a 2 block neighborhood of factories not actually entire cities with hundreds of thousands like ignorant people here visualize.

Think about it psychologically use the scientific method: Kids who grow up with both their parents making the household income believe in gender equality more than the kids growing up with only the father figure as a symbol of security. So naturally more educated working women bringing the lion share of the household income due to the jobs these projects create means more percentage of children who are more open minded and not sexists.

I am not claiming to be living in the best country in the world nor am I claiming we are angels or anything like that, however I am claiming we are moving in the right direction.

So you think it is a stupid idea and a HUGE step back?? Well try convincing most fathers to let their daughters go work in a place with boys and then after you succeed come talk to me. (You say abolish the Guardian System I am 100% behind you) Okay then convince the crazy religious ignorant nutjobs not to make this a ground for an Al-Qaeda revival and after you succeed come talk to me) (You say put all those religious nutjobs in jail) Okay then try convincing people not to start an Ultra-islamist riot that will truly push the country 1000 years back and install a Mullah system similar to that of Iran and after you succeed come talk to me.

So yes "Slow and steady, wins the race".

Again a HUGE NOTE: An industrial city is a 2 blocks factory place not a huge fledgling skyscraper filled city as you people are imagining.

even if they don't throw it away it will not serve any purpose because they don't have any intention of wearing it and will consider it burden. Its same as pointing gun at some Muslim men and forced him to offer prayers but if his heart don't want it then he will just offer prayers because of fear of gun

Man I will settle for JUST one Saudi individual such as yourself to have the mindset you have! Just keep multiplying your thoughts. It may take four more decades, however, we 'the outsiders' need to know that even if the smallest of progress is being made.

Cheers and enjoy the slow progress. It doesn't matter. You'll succeed one day. And I'll be the first person congratulating you guys! :pop:

Throwing out is not an option everywhere.

Personally i think if a women wear veil by forced then wearing or not wearing don't make any difference..Its intention which count more than actions and Muslims should do every thing because of fear of God..not because of fear of society or father/brother

I remember this Afghani guy who was telling me story that during Taliban rule they were going for travelling and they were stopped by Taliban and were asked to offer prayers and my friend told them that they have already done it but Taliban did not believe and they offered same prayer again because of fear of talibans and i don't think such prayers serve any purpose but again some peoples are too thick to get this

Alright, let me explain people a couple of things over here. Some members seem to be confused by the term "industrial city", let us change the word "city" & use the term "industrial district". Does that make more sense? An industrial district as far as I know is generally an area built within or towards the outskirts of a city based upon the kinds of industries or offices that are to be built there. For example, a manufacturing plant that tends to create a lot of pollution is always built towards the outskirts of the city if not away from the city itself.

In Saudi Arabia's case, these districts serve a variety of purposes. Firstly, they aim to reduce female unemployment & make better use of their populace's talents. Secondly, a job at these districts will provide training to women & will encourage women from conservative backgrounds to seek a job. Thirdly, women who have never worked before will be able to gain job experience, & might end up being motivated enough to seek a job at a more conventional office. Fourthly, a female only industrial district provides some sort of peace of mind to conservative parents knowing that their daughters aren't interacting with the opposite gender.

These methods may not seem conventional to some individuals, but they are certainly a good step forward to the complete emancipation of women in a conservative Islamic society. By the way, women do work in offices alongside men in this country. Some offices may create a separate area for women to work at, but women are certainly allowed to work & focus on career development. Anyway, these were my views on the subject.

Change in KSA is generational. Each generation is a complete Alien to the one before it. The great grandfathers of this generation used to go to work in Egyptian, Palestinian, Jordanian, Syrian farms and as street cleaners because we didn't have any money and they would send this money back to their families so they can live.

The grandfathers of this generation are divided into Three:
Group A(70%): They followed their father's footsteps and were working outside as well to bring money to their families.
Group B(28%): Went to schools to study the alphabet and numbers and how to read and write. (Note: Most before this were illiterate)
Group C(2%): They were the elite of the society they were the ones who got a college degree early on mostly from foreign countries primarily Egypt, Syria and to a lesser extent the US. (This 2% was worth its weight in Gold and to this day we stand up and salute them)
------Oil Wealth started to kick in between these two----

The fathers of this generation further divided into three groups:
Group A(50%): Only completed primary school and high school to get a government job (A secure job) of which just getting that was enough for one to replace the foreigners who were taking care of everything (Mostly from other Arab countries).
Group B(45%): They went to college and most of this Group went on to become school teachers to replace all the Egyptians, Syrians and Jordanians who were taking care of school teaching the previous generation.
Group C (5%) : These people went on after college to get masters and PhDs to teach in universities who are mostly newly built and are the first generation to actually bring knowledge and cultivate it here even though most of their jobs are administrative.

And finally MY generation who I am still not sure of the Educational mix up of yet but this is what I know:
Group A (40%): They could not get score enough scores in High School and SAT and CKT exams to get into universities they instead mostly have to get Diplomas and go to community colleges to give themselves an edge so they can achieve the required minimum to get into the workforce.
Group B (40%): They have gotten into Universities and are Studying Medicine, Engineering, Computer Science, etc etc. And are the basis of the first actual civilized educated society.
Group C (20%): These are people who are on the King Abdullah Scholarship program which exposes them to western culture and values of how to make a civil society and are intended to cultivate Group B's heading as well as their own into a more Liberal open minded society.

As you may have noticed I tried to cover the percentages that matter in the society. People who are just sitting on their ***** doing nothing will hardly make a dent on the society except on the earlier generations.

Anyways what I meant by this long post is people say "Saudi Arabia is modernizing slowly" while in fact it is doing it very very fast. Frog leaping ages at a time at record speed. Despite how slow it may seem to you.

Okay let us use examples shall we??

In the great grandfather generation tribalism was extremely high, the concept of state or country was absent to most of the population (West being an exception since it was part of Ottoman and were fairly a bit more educated than their eastern, central and southern counterparts). Tribes would even go to war with one another over the silliest of reasons.

In the grandfather generation law and order has been established and the concept of state, rule of law and government begun to sip in but they still had baggage of the previous generation however they shed off the extreme tribalism concept which was slowly replaced with the concept of the state, however for instance in this generation riding a bike was considered a homosexual act which was punishable by public square flogging by the religious police. TV was the tool of the devil and satellite dishes were shot down with guns and rifles and the ones inside would be dragged and flogged for his breaking of law (Government tried liberalizing at the late stages of this generation to disastrous effects).

The father generation rebelled against stupid Bicycle laws and started their own push into a more open minded society by not caring what other people wear or what they watch in their houses or any of those things and instead they would mind their own business and government further regulated the laws to make sure they are clear and no one is punished over stupid things.

My generation is rebelling against Social Norms just like the older one except now we have internet and access to outside the world better so our rebellion against more stupid conservative laws are more overheard by outsiders than before, trust me what the older generations fought was much much worse than say "Women driving" however this one is much much more loud due to outside world greater access into Saudi society even though just by taking a peek and making judgements which I call being ignorant. Right now this generation is trying to do all things liberal societies do and IS doing like (Dating etc.) however I highly doubt this will be a secret thing in the Sons generation.

WoW I don't think I ever summarized Saudi Society history in such a manner before.

The father generation reb
