ISTANBUL: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday declared that women are not equal to men and launched a bitter attack against feminists in Turkey, claiming they reject the concept of motherhood.

Speaking at a summit in Istanbul on justice for women, the devoutly Muslim president said that biological differences between women and men meant they cannot serve the same functions in life.

"Our religion (Islam) has defined a position for women (in society): motherhood," Erdogan told an audience of Turkish women including his own daughter Sumeyye.

"Some people can understand this, while others can't. You cannot explain this to feminists because they don't accept the concept of motherhood."

He recalled, "I would kiss my mother's feet because they smelled of paradise. She would glance coyly and cry sometimes.

"Motherhood is something else." He went on to say that women and men cannot be treated equally "because it is against human nature."

"Their characters, habits and physiques are different ... You cannot place a mother breastfeeding her baby on an equal footing with men.

"You cannot get women to do every kind of work men can do, as in Communist regimes.

"You cannot tell them to go out and dig the soil. This is against their delicate nature."

Erdogan was apparently referring to the practice during and after World War II for women in Communist states like the USSR to do heavy manual work in factories or in roles such as tram drivers.

The Islamic-rooted government of Erdogan has long been accused by critics of seeking to erode the country's secular principles and limiting the civil liberties of women.

Erdogan has also drawn the ire of feminist groups for declaring that every woman in Turkey should have three children and with proposals to limit abortion rights and the morning-after pill.

. . . . . . .
For whom didn't understand what they read;
He is referring to positive discrimination/affirmative action between men and women which is something good and far better than some think women are lower than men...

What a tool:tdown::sick:
Sure they are physically not as strong as men but there a little differences in other things.

.
Women are not physically equal to men ..It does not take a genious to figure out ..but they need equal or more rights then a man because they physically not as capable as men in many field of work ..but this guy seems to be advocating for inequality in rights

I don't know why media is always publishing bad things about Erdogan he might have said something different but as usual media like to spice up news.

It's very simple. The liberals accuse Erdogan of being religious minded and they despise him for being so. The liberals argue that Turkey has its roots in secularism which is frankly speaking arguable.

I think Erdogan has made these remarks intentionally. More particularly, these remarks were aimed at feminists. A man and a woman aren't the same. There's no denying that. However, discrimination against women is a worldwide problem. For instance, women don't earn as much as men in top positions. This needs to be acknowledged. However, the argument that women should have exactly the same rights as men is too simplistic in my view.

Okay.... he praised women and motherhood. But biassed foreign media trying to show it in other way..

What is more interesting is when Indian media writes "Erdoğan says: Women are not equal to men" some Indian members automatically take it as "Erdoğan said: Women are below men".... I think this shows their mind set.

About the phrases: "Our religion (Islam) has defined a position for women (in society): motherhood,"
"Some people can understand this, while others can't. You cannot explain this to feminists because they don't accept the concept of motherhood."

He not saying like; Women should sat at home and pump out babies..... What he is saying, it is the normal route for a woman to be mother..

And i would add, also it's normal route for man to be a father.

In our eyes a family consists of a father, a mother and their children..... not with a gay couple and their adopted children.. We should respect to gays rights but i'm against to present it like a normal thing (I mean gays and their family with adopted children.)

I don't know what the rest of the world think about our ideals nor do i care.
