The USA can offer a lot to India in economic terms.
Currently, the major Credit Ratings agencies (which are all based in the USA) are in the process of downgrading India.
If India were to give up their "independent stance" and move to the US camp, they could get their credit ratings increased and divert a huge amount of American investment from China into India instead. It could greatly speed up Indian development.
That's possible, but Russia is our ally too, rendering them neutral in any China-India disputes (as we have already seen). So America is a better bet for India.
US is never a better bet for anybody ! they are buisnessmen , previously with a long term view for their benefit , but now only for short term gains and they are getting stupid hence . The only country that can take down china in ASIA ( with collateral damage ) is INDIA (RUSSIA has no reason at present ) . and US would love to see that happen , only to see the fall of china, not caring if their instrument will be destroyed as well. and that we understand very well . but there are independent reasons for us to assume anti-china stance only if precautionary .
though sharing long border with resurgent RUSSIA will definitely strain china-russia relation . though you are right , a weaker russia and a stronger china are a different relationship altogether .
