New Delhi: Defence Minister AK Antony said today that the recent ceasefire violations along
the Line of Control in Kashmir are "a major
cause of concern." He also said, "We will take
every step to protect our interest and the
Indian armed forces." Last evening, Pakistan and India exchanged
fire, and a Pakistani solider was killed. The tension which began with cross-border
firing on the weekend peaked on Tuesday after
two Indian jawans were killed by Pakistani
troops who crossed the Line of Control in the
Medhar district, 220 kms north of Jammu. One
of the soldiers was decapitated. Pakistan has dismissed India's allegations that it
violated the line of control and ceasefire as
"negative propaganda" and has offered an
investigation by UN military observers, which
India has rejected. Both sides, however, are stressing the need to
prevent the crisis from escalating. India has
sought a flag meeting between Indian and
Pakistani commanders in Mendhar, but Pakistan
is yet to respond. India has said its standard operating procedure
on patrolling along the LoC remains unchanged.
It has also said that if Pakistan violates ceasefire
again, it will respond "appropriately." Yesterday, New Delhi confirmed that Tuesday's
brutal killing of two soldiers by Pakistani troops
will not impact the recent decision by both
countries to introduce a more liberal visa
process. But, as tension simmered on the Line of
Control, 25 Indian trucks were stopped from entering a designated trade centre in Pakistan-
Occupied Kashmir from Poonch for the cross-
border trade that has been used to promote
confidence and trust between the two
countries. Trucks are still stranded there and the
trade centre is closed. 21 items, mainly agricultural produce, are
bartered every week between the two sides. In the Uri sector, however, 50 Indian trucks
crossed over and 37 trucks came into India
from the Pakistan occupied Kashmir without
hindrance, sources said.

I wonder why India rejected the **** offer of UN observers? Mmmmmm

Who the F#%K is UN to resolve such things between two very capable nations? We are not Somalia. We got to be mature enough to resolve our issues ourselves.

This can be resolved either diplomatically or militarily, but between both of us. The UN observers have been there in that Poonch border, but they the just that right, OBSERVE and NOT comment! This is simple... You let a consultant walk in and soon consultants will be driving your company... that doesn't happen for countries.

Don;t you think it would be wise to use the UN to counter Pakistan;s claims? This way it could be highlgithed theru the media and show who is the real culprit. Mature? Really you think so? Diplomatically and militarily all these yrs has not solved ****. Wake up time to change tactics. If you go to war next time, finish the job completely instead of half assing it.

And you think UN is unbiased like it is an International Arbitration Commission? What about the possibility of using any UN involvement to make the J&K issue international instead of bilateral? I know exactly what I am talking about and so does India and even when Pakistan asked for this kind of a resolution, they very well knew the answer and that is why such a thing was proposed in the first place.

Please don't be Naive to trust that UN is some messiah of peace. It will be like giving an open invitation to the world into your backyard and that is not allowed. UN would not resolve this for us, can not resolve this for us and WILL NOT be allowed to even TRY to resolve this for us. We don't need a toothless organization to act as proxy of others in our country - by simply playing into their hands by accepting such a probe.

For countering Pakistan's claims - it is relevant (and the real point!) only for how the international community sees it. Everything else is anyways our internal problem of managing our neighbor. That is the job of our Global PR agencies - MEA, MoD etc etc. Anyways, we really don't have to do much anyways right now to color it the way we want. The world would listen to us.
