Will India ever be a "real" super-power?

BTW a bit off-topic the thread poster does excellent work when it comes to research on India and its short comings, what I have observed is that this man is 24x7 busy posting some or the other thread on India, #give yourself a break dude so much of India obsession is not good for health; Take care.....

Yes, it is somewhat creepy to see such a level of obsession...

India is already suffering from all sorts of problem because of her 1.2 billion population....can you imagine what will happen to India if her population reaches 2 billion ??? I think she will explode or she will ship her excessive population to other countries.

our population is stabilising dude.it will peak at 1.7 billion

China is not a superpower in any sense of the word, and never will be. Similarly, all talk of India being a super power, even in future, is ignorant foolishness.

According to Lyman Miller, "The basic components of superpower stature may be measured along four axes of power: military, economic, political, and cultural (or what political scientist Joseph Nye has termed “soft power”).[2]

In the opinion of Kim Richard Nossal of Queen's University, "generally this term was used to signify a political community that occupied a continental-sized landmass, had a sizable population (relative at least to other major powers); a superordinate economic capacity, including ample indigenous supplies of food and natural resources; enjoyed a high degree of non-dependence on international intercourse; and, most importantly, had a well-developed nuclear capacity (eventually normally defined as second-strike capability)."[1]

In the opinion of Professor Paul Dukes, "a superpower must be able to conduct a global strategy including the possibility of destroying the world; to command vast economic potential and influence; and to present a universal ideology". Although, "many modifications may be made to this basic definition".[31] According to Professor June Teufel Dreyer, "A superpower must be able to project its power, soft and hard, globally."[32]

China cannot project its Military power, even in Asia. Similarly it has no soft power, having no ideology which can attract other countries. In fact, hardly any foreigner would want to live in China.

As far as economic power goes, China is resource poor. In Industries, it is just a cheap workshop whose fortunes are intimately tied to its "consumers". If the consumers decline, Chinese economy must decline in tandem, as is happening presently.

Lastly, China is abysmal in the field of Tech inventions.

All the above points are true for India too, only more so. The goal India needs to aspire for is to reach a middle income status, with improved social and educational indicators, and a more equitable distribution of income.

Stabilizing means that the number of old people will take over the number of young people, right ?
really??
Google is at your service. it will offer a better insight. :coffee:

India is the most unstable country in this region. India has poverty, gang rapers, terrorist in it. China can be super power but not India. We will never let it happen.

 there are over a million foreigners living in Beijing and Shanghai alone. Even your foreign minister wants to live in China. Any Indian would give up everything in India to live in China. Our worst city is better than your best city.

Our wages are much higher than India and rest of developing Asia.

We are the 3rd largest consumer overall and largest consumer in many of the goods (automobiles, home appliances, toys, furniture, clothing, audio-visual equipment, etc) we produce. Our growth decline is because our economic base is MASSIVE now and we want the quality growth by moving up the value chain and add more services. It's done on purpose by the CPC. Your economic knowledge is very poor. We have the production and the consumers. Pretty much every global brand considers China their 1st or 2nd largest market. Since we export a lot, we have the global consumer base to buy our products and not just our own consumer base.

We are in the top 3 for patents granted pretty much every year, we are leading in many areas such as Quantum technology and nanotechnology and many others.

Don't ever compare an incompetent failed state like India to us. The only thing India will ever compete with us is in population size. Even in military we have thoroughly defeated you so even in that area you can't even hold our jockstrap.

Your response is the typical ignorant Indian response. Lacks knowledge on China and just parrots everything your media and western media spews. You lack critical and independent thinking. This is one of the reasons India always loses to China in everything, we just outsmart Indians.

It never will due to geographic, multi-ethnic tensions, insurgencies, poverty, troubled relations with neighbors, natural and climate change, over-population, caste system, domestic religious hostilities, wide-spread corruption, etc. India will never reach "super power" status.

There is no such thing as Super-Power !! even the Americans dont like being called this !!! Yes there are powerfull and fully Industrialsed country's. Having a Large army and 10K tanks or 5k nuclear Bombs dont make you a super=power if 80% of your population is struggling to keep its head above water !!!

Not likely in real life. But cant say about Bollywood movies.

If I remember correctly no India ever claimed we will be super power. I think this term is used by others. First, about can India be a super power? Yes possible but with lot of ifs. Will that happen soon? not in next 50 years. So given that it is something not going to happen in next 50 years, I do not know why we keep discussing it.
Now about reasons listed in Article, I find them incorrect.
a) We inherited disputes, we are not adding disputes. In fact we play by the rule.
b) PAN card thing is so untrue, the person who has written it has no idea about it.Yes, our bureaucracy sucks but things will improve for sure.

Yes India will be super power, Problems are there to overcome

India just need to make more movies and it will be more convincing.

Regional power at best with huge influence over Nepal. :agree:

The question about India is not whether India can be a superpower. But once India is again divided into many pieces like how it was before Britain united it, which piece will be the most powerful.

India is already suffering from all sorts of problem because of her 1.2 billion population....can you imagine what will happen to India if her population reaches 2 billion ??? I think she will explode or she will ship her excessive population to other countries.

India already ship its excess population to others. Remittance is the #1 Indian source of economy.

When majority of my people can afford a Volswagen or a BMW that day we will become a superpower both mentally as well as economically .
Well for records everyone in states cannot afford a Volkswagen let alone a BMW.USSR is a different story :coffee:
