Will India accept a Muslim Prime Minister

Interesting to see that more than 70% have voted Yes.

And many who have voted No are Pakistani.

Among the only handful Muslim MPs available in LS and RS, MJ Akbar can be one for the future.

MJ Akbar is a noted journalist and a BJP national spokesperson
He is now MoS External Affairs.

Of course he needs to work and prove his credentials but among a very limited representation, he is one person who can do some wonders. But PM post could be a bit difficult bcz of PM Modi having age to his side and MJ Akbar not having experience in either state level or national level. But he is a man who can get the work done.

BTW he has ties to INC as well in the past and at present one of the few people who has won the confidence and backing of both BJP and RSS. So in a way he can be one of the few who will get support across party lines.

Other than him, i dont see any young ones coming in and doing any substantial things to gain national importance. Please keep folks like Owaisi out of the equation... His views are so much radical like right wing Hindu politicians that such elected persons cannot become national leaders and PM

his name is ashok kumar & he died fighting TTP & no he is not a shaheed according to pakistan as only muslim reserved that right according to islamic law of islamic pakistan
Recently, Ashok Kumar, a Hindu soldier, who lay down his life fighting in Waziristan in 2013, was awarded Tamgha-i-Shujaat on March 23, 2015. But surprisingly, his name was suffixed with “late” and not “Shaheed” (martyr) http://www.dawn.com/news/1189939

if you put Rahul Gandhi , Modi and Abdulkalam as the option for PM ,,, I am 100% sure the first two will fail miserably
Unfortunately we do not have our beloved Kalam now and no potential (Secular) Muslim leader

Now only Option is

DR. ZAKIR NAIK

So, the answer to the questions" Will India accept a Muslim Prime-Minister?" is solved very easily by @ Syama Ayas and seven amigos who thanked her for this brilliant response. Out of Millions of Muslims living in India, there was only one, who was suitable since he is dead the question will India have a Muslim prime minister is forever solved.

In Layman's term
Since, rest of Muslims are not good, secular India will keep electing Hindu extremist as Prime minister.

There is where you are wrong. What it means is if we get someone of the capability and temprament of Dr. Kalam then we will have a Muslim PM. Unfortunately at the moment there is no one but maybe in the future we may see the someone like him.

PS - the outpouring of grief among common people (not party workers) when Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam died was unprecedented. Many PMs and presidents have died but I did not see such a response. And he was apolitical so it was not driven by a political party. It truly showed he was loved by the masses

The president in India is appointed not voted,

In a Representative democracy no PM is voted in. You vote for an MP in your local riding. The party that MP belongs to comes together and selects their head who becomes the PM.

Your own constitution says non-muslims can't be PM so look in the mirror before you judge others.

If anyone it will be the congress who will give India its first muslim prime minister. However that person will have very little or no credentials to become the PM of India. Like when they made Pratibha Patil the first female President of India just for the sake of giving India its first female President. And then they will pat their own back like always.

We have had Muslims Cricket Captains, Muslim SuperStars, Billionaire Muslim Industrialists, Muslim idealogues, Muslim Generals but sadly muslims remain either unrepresented or confined to their pocket burrows when it comes to Politics. Currently we see a token presence in National Politics.

Why do you think this is the case?

India prides itself on it's secular democratic leader - So is it unreasonable to assume that 20% of population cannot produce a head of state of sufficient calibre while they excel at other spheres? Or is India and by extension it's majority politicians have an innate mistrust of Muslims when it comes to running the nation.

Do you think will a major party like BJP or Congress will ever nominate or elect a Muslim PM candidates? Do you think it is an idea whose time has come? I am not saying select some incompetent but atleast process should be started, non communal leaders should be cultivated so that one day take occupy the highest political office of our country. We have had enough of Azams and Owaisis who not only exploit but misrepresent their community.

Such a leader would be beyond symbolic and perhaps will manage to do what Obama failed to - Heal the rifts b/w our communities.

In this context

- Do you have some up and coming leader who in mind?
- Will people vote for him to be PM rejecting their communal biases and solely on his merits?
but it is hard for me to accept ,

In general Indians would have no problem as long as the person is a liberal Muslim like Kalam. Bhakts are a special case though, they even declared Hamid Ansari anti-national when he was merely following the right protocol. But I suppose such extreme right wingers are everywhere.

.
If a muslim wants to be the PM of the country he would have to put the country before the religion. he would be an Indian first and Muslim second and not vice versa

As it should be for any Indian.

Your own constitution says non-muslims can't be PM so look in the mirror before you judge others.

Which includes Muslims like the Ahmediyas as well, it might be superfluous to add.
