Will 1.6m ‘non-Indian migrants’ in Assam become the new Rohingyas?

.
Are you a thick head, sir?
Why thick head? Your grand father were rich, educated, intelligent so migrated to Kolkata and received all the documents and benefit to live a comfortable life. While less fortunate among you could not go to Kolkata and moved to Assam.Because of their poverty, ignorance and pre-occupation with life struggle they could not acquire documents which will only prove necessity 5-6 decades later. Just because of this circumstances, you are advocating their expulsion, hunger and what not. If this is not hypocrisy that what it is?

20 million came down to 1.6 million... hmmm
Thats getting closer to reality considering some lazy a$$ hindus left for free land in Assam.
AIUDF Azmal, the great leader already cautioned Assamese that they will become minority if those hindus granted citizenship. @hembo

Once Mamata is booted, you'll hear complaints from West Bengal also.
Muslims and Secular Hindus form the majority voter in West Bengal. Very much unlikely that, BJP will ever come to power in West Bengal with it's current rhetoric. Majority of West Bengal hindu voters don't vote for anti-muslim credential of candidate and they are not anti-Bengali like xenophobic Assamese. Assamese vote for BJP has two elements 1. Anti Bengali 2. Anti Muslim. Anti-Bengali paranoia is stronger as they fear of loosing Assamese character of their state. That's why ethnic assamese hindus voted BJP in droves. But these two factors are absent in West Bengal.

Another factor BJP won in Assam is because AIUDF and Congress split the vote in their own backyard. I dont think congress will take this risk next time.

I have faith in Indian civil administration and normal people. They are not as savage as the Burmese/Northeast Chinkies/Hindutvas. But the deep state is main concern. In 2012 riot, Indian deep state delayed Army deployment which had severe repercussion. May be they thought things will go the Rohingya way, but the northeasterners got biggest nightmare of their life in mainland India. This is why they will restrain the situation in coming days.

In August 2012, 30,000 people from the Northeast region had fled Bangalore after attacks[66] and threats of more attacks to come after Ramadan. Shiyeto from Nagaland, resident of Bangalore, was attacked by a group of people who threatened to kill him if he did not leave the city before Ramadan.[66]

Cities of Pune, Chennai and Hyderabad also witnessed an exodus of people from Northeast.[67] In the national capital Delhi, rumours that people from the Northeast will be targeted, particularly after Ramadan, started circulating.[67]

Union Home Ministry has banned bulk SMS and MMS for 15 days to quell rumours and threats.[66] Railways have introduced two special trains to meet the rush of people.[68]

Singh called for maintaining peace at "any cost".[68] Then Bharatiya Janata Party president Nitin Gadkari blamed illegal migrants for the attacks on people from Northeast.[68] Gadkari said the violent mob in Mumbai had waived a Pakistani flag, made provocative remarks and vandalised the martyrs' memorial. He also condemned the attack on the media present and the assault on women police by the demonstrators at Azad Maidan.[69]

DGP Dinesh Reddy of Andhra Pradesh State, said, "Police have been deployed at all localities with a sizeable North-East population, to boost the community's confidence. Besides, round-the-clock police patrols have been organised."[70]

A policeman at Chennai Egmore station, where Howrah-bound trains from the South make a brief halt, remarked about the exodus: "The large crowds remind me of the arrival of Tamil refugees from Sri Lanka decades ago."[70]

On 18 August 2012, Bangalore police arrested three persons for sending SMSs and MMSs, to incite hatred against people from Northeast.[71] Anees Pasha, Thaseem Nawaz and Shahid Salman Khan were arrested, and four mobiles, two computers and one laptop were seized from them.[71] The culprits are believed to have shown clippings of violence in Assam and told a group of Northeast youths that they would face a similar fate if they continued to stay in Bangalore beyond 20 August.[71]

In Coimbatore, police arrested a person identified as B Mohammed Sheik Hassain, for sending more than 200 hate SMSs. According to Hassain, a person named Anvar first sent him the message. Hassain has been charged under the IPC for threat to national integration and creating public mischief, and under the Copyright Act.[72]

Investigators traced the source of hate messages to Islamist groups such as Popular Front of India, Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami, Manita Neeti Pasarai and Karnataka Forum for Dignity. The SMS campaign was designed to create panic among people from Northeast forcing them to flee and to damage the social fabric and economy.[73][74][75] The Kerala State Intelligence was asked to check the veracity of the report with respect to the PFI.[76]

Well, Bengali muslims are the biggest ally of Indian army against insurgent in North East. So in every riots when army are deployed they stay in the side of Bengalis. The opposite is true when it comes to state police.

Maybe the state police is largely represented by local tribes, opposite to Bengalis?

Irony is almost all muslim will be in NRC. After this NRC and naturalisation of hindus will put Bengali as the majority in Assam. Assamese just dug their own graveyard. :)
