You Folk were butchering Tamils in first place, owing to which IG had to create LTTE.
Tamils were not asking for indepence , they just wanted to equal rights and the respect they deserved. But you were not even ready to this, and this is what started the fight.

So can you elaborate these "equal" rights denied to the Tamil population... I'm a person of minority in the island and would like to know how these denied rights are so specific to the Tamils that India had to create a army of terrorists to create havoc on a peaceful prosperous island nation and drag it back to 30 years of devastation and enmity?? And where were these butchering before India started to arm and train a 12 dozen insurgency groups in the 70's??

Btw you have very simple knowledge of a very complex conflict that actually epicentred in Tamil Nadu.. Northern SL was just a easy launching pad.. Yes India did pay the price with Rajiv Gandhi and yes after the Tigers bit the hand that raised it ,India's policy did change and we're grateful for covert help it gave in 2009.. The report documenting the island's human rights abuses was undertaken by Tamil and Sinhalese researchers from Sri Lanka and London, and specifically examined the treatment of detainees in the wake of a riot in the country's Vavuniya detention centre last June, that triggered brutal police retribution.

It found that prisoners from the riot were kept in "abominable conditions and deprived of basic human rights". One case study documents the treatment of Ganesan Nimalaruban, an aspiring post office worker who was arrested in 2009 and subjected to three days of torture that left him with heart and respiratory problems, the report says. He later died in custody.

Nimalaruban's family said their 28-year-old son was beaten regularly in prison and required frequent visits to hospital where, shackled on the floor and denied food and water, he also contracted dengue fever. Authorities claim Nimalaruban suffered a fatal heart attack because of the riot.

His mother, Rajeswari, insists her son died because of repeated beatings that police have attempted to cover up. She says her family, left impoverished by Nimalaruban's legal battle, has also been subjected to intimidation.

Another case study describes the ordeal of an artist, identified as MM, who was arrested in 2007. The 28-year-old, who has suffered from polio since childhood, claims he was forced after days of torture into signing a false confession stating he had assisted Tamil Tiger rebels.

I want to hear from the fellow Indians about the more recent news of Chinese submarines sighted in SL waters 22 times. Do Indians still think that SL will stay friendly? Mind it - this is after Indian navy helped destroy LTTE in the 2009 war.

Sri Lanka Campaign for Peace and Justice is a London based front organisation for the now militarily defeated LTTE among dozens more operated by the LTTE fronts in western capitols.. There is little credence to them nor this politically motivated article.. It's very easy for such groups to change from terror financiers and illegal arms smugglers to pseudo human right campaigners over night.. It's been the trend these days

with due respect i know LTTE was born on 5th may 76 but, the time they really become active was after Black July .... or say the campaign was started in 79 to protest against Sri Lankan Majority and create a separate state which follow Black july type of Incident and then Civil war ...... I was thinking if India Help LTTE according to you then y we help you in Putting a stop to LTTE .
