The reason Japan surrendered was the fear for Russia. Americans love to think it was the 2 atomic bombs that made Japan surrender but it wasn't. The 2 Atomic bombs didn't made much of a difference after it was already being carpet bombed and even then Japan refused to surrender. After Soviets crushed the Nazi, they were going for Japan and that was the major reason for making a deal with US.
