Why the name "India" was a good choice for the former British colony

Actually, it is foreigners who call it Indian subcontinent.
We just call it Akhanda Bharat, lol. (Its a joke).

You can call it South Asia or The subcontinent.
I do not have a problem with people calling Bharat "India" or "Hindustan."

But remember the region is called South Asia and not Indian subcontinent because
Pakistanis and Afghanistanis are not Indians.

Thank you very much.

Back in the old days people used to use the name "India" as a geographical name like "Europe."

But now the name "India" refers to modern day "Republic of India" or "Bharat" or "Hindustan."

As a Pakistani I do not see myself as an Indian.

.
Clearly, Indos or Indika became India later on. And that applied to the entire land mass on this side of Sindhu, and not just the Sindhu valley.
That happened becuase once muslims conquered eastwards sindh they started adding everything into their indos-tan(hindustan) ..

Thats fair. You can call this region South Asia, but you cannot stop foreigners from calling this region as Indian subcontinent because India is the most easily recognizable land feature in this region and other nations can be easily described around it.

I am sure when in Europe or US, someone asks you where is Pakistan, you would say North west of India.

No, wrong.

I say Pakistan is in South Asia, or some say the Greater Middle East.

I usually correct foreigners when they say "Indian subcontinent."
The whole subcontinent is not "Indian." Only Republic of India is "Indian."

As I Pakistani , I say I am from Pakistan which is in South Asia.

Muslim rulers rarely ruled deep south of India, but the Europeans were most in business for spice from there.

Thats your prerogative.
BTW - the above map is a bit incorrect since it shows Siachen Glacier as part of Pakistan, whereas in reality it is controlled by India.

Sorry but don't mislead people.

When you say "Indian subcontinent" you are acting as if India claims the whole region.

geographical India is today's "Republic of India."

Don't try to obfuscate people.

Pakistan is part of South Asia and definitely not part of "Indian Subcontinent."

It is Asian subcontinent.

We Pakistanis have nothing to do with India. We are a sovereign nation.

Ummm...actually you have wrong. Kashmir region is disputed territory according to United Nations.

Stop being retarded here.
