Why Sarah Qureshi Decided to Build a Jet Engine?

.
I fid
I did my masters in aircraft design at cranfield

Who is funding her research ???

Encouraging that a Pakistani woman is working at such hi-tech level and that also with R&D. Her background in education is quite robust referring field of interest. Seems she took a very calculated approach to her carrier.
Regardless of the field of interest and gender, may every child should get encouragement and support for the right to education from the family, government, and society.

It can be a real problem to meet regulations of some countries or attract more customer as water vapor is a greenhouse gas. Plus, it can provide a platform for small particles to cause smog.

Her own words:

“Our invention is a turbomachinery which can be fitted onto an engine to separate out the water vapor of the exhaust emissions and contain it on the aircraft to be released before landing to reduce global warming.”

Incorrect.

She is aiming to reduce water vapor contrails, that is all.

Sir G, your statement is partially true - just starting the answering statement to someone with 'Incorrect' or 'wrong' is not a good idea.

Always motivate others with encouraging statements to enhance their knowledge, even if your thinking is that it is flawed. Believe me, such an approach will augment your softskills.

Contrail is short for 'condensation trail', they are formed from the exhaust of the aircraft engines, the vapors are always present in the atmosphere, but when the extra vapor from the airplane exhaust rapidly saturates already moist air, the water condenses and freezes into minute ice crystals.

Commercial jets cruise at 26,000 feet or higher, where temperatures are cold enough that the large volumes of condensed vapor instantly freeze and form visible contrail clouds.

High in the atmosphere, clouds perform a dual role. White cloud tops act like mirrors, reflecting incoming sunlight back out into space and promoting a cooling effect. Clouds can also serve as a blanket, trapping heat emitted from Earth’s surface, inducing a warming effect. The researchers needed to analyze both to understand whether contrails have a warming or cooling effect on Earth’s atmosphere, what they call the net radiative effect.

In brief, to some extent, it seems that the contrails trap hot air from the earth's surface to increase the warming effect and also work like mirrors to reflect back the sunlight into space and produce a cooling effect. So which role is more beneficial, is still under research as data collection is difficult to distinguish between 'clouds' and 'contrails'.

I wonder why is that the priority? she could've worked on quieter engine or a more fuel efficient solution.
these water vapors don't do much other other than drawing white streaks on blue sky?
what other environmentally detrimental effects are there with those entrails other than adding cloud effects on clear skies?

Her own words below show that even the title of this thread is an incorrect exaggeration. :D

What is definitely not a good idea is to make bombastic claims without any robust foundations. Think about that for a second.

Please see the above. Need I say more? :D

In 6 minutes video she emphasised the main part. You can easily see that in winter why there is smog.. it is not due to subtle burning, just media blames that.
Mainly, it is condensation of water vapours and other solvent, and consequently their suspension.

It can be released in lower atmosphere or stored until landing crew dump it.

And storing all that weight on board plus the componentry before releasing it all before landing over populated areas will help. Right. :D

There is data that one flight company emphasised that its passengers should take a dump before boarding. So yes, light weight solution improves fuel economy. Anyway, if Cranfield was spending money on that (in her PhD) so it was worthwhile topic. There will be many other benefits to curtail contrail.

Lastly, she said that technology is matured so no more efficient engine can be built.
