Why RAW & IB failed to detect/prevent the grave problem of drug trafficking in Punjab?

The drug problem affected the Punjab state so badly that it lost all it's glory and tradition of having highest density of military men. The nature and characteristics of this state changed substantially and Indian intelligence agencies could do nothing. Why?

They are not Law and enforcement agencies its a job of narcotics department and most probably due to state govt patronage to the drug traffickers .....

It's a collusion of politicians. The Akalis ruined it.
When the scale of damage is so colossal, it becomes a national problem not local law-enforcement problem.

By your logic, the army shouldn't have got involved in Khalistan problem and shouldn't have conducted 'Operation Blue Star'.

.
Just because people aren't joining the armed forces does not mean they are smoking whacky tobacy.

.
The large part of the problem is the cross-border drug smuggling nexus on either side of Punjab. So, a large part of the "law enforcement" problem has to be solved on the Pakistan side. But I'd bet that the Pakistani Punjab politicians are colluding with the Indian Punjab politicians through intermediaries and smugglers to rake in money.

.
It should be NSG or special police teams with IB who should carryout such operations ( read about operation black thunder 1987 which made Mr Doval what he is today).... not Army and you are right when the problem is so colossal , it should be handled differently , but still not R&AW and IB .... and buddy there is a diff between Drugs problem and terrorism and who knows may be R&AW and IB using these drug smugglers ;)

if thats the case then why are drugs not a big issue in Pakistani punjab
thats classic indian ......... blaming everything on Pakistan ........... perhaps we are also behind the MKI loss recently or Pakistan is responsible for what happened to poor bahubali in second installment right?
its responsibity of Indian government to protect its citizens and easy way is to blame all your incompetence on Pakistan fron Kashmir to Drugs

on seriuos note
the actual drug problem is supply and demand
look at USA a whole war on drugs ....... still drug addicts..
Pakistan ....... one of the major hub of Afghan produced drug smuggling and home to notorious opium cartels..........still the drug problem is not very critical ......... it is worrying but not very critical ....... it has more to do with religious conservatism in Pakistan as all forms of drugs are haram.......

P.S taliban government in Afghanistan destroyed opium production and downed world heroin supply by 70%

very surprised by the indians posting here. The actual reason for the drug menace in indian Punjab is the Indian intelligence agencies itself. You must be very naive to think the indian government is willing to do anything about this menace. This prevalance of drug use was started by the indian intelligence agencies during late eighties and nineties to quell the mass khalistani movement by addicting the youth to drugs. YOU know this method has been used throughout history. If the indian government wanted to destroy this menace they would have done it long ago. Something offtopic to say the indians especially the hindus never accept any of their mistakes be it anyting at all. You can see that here on this forum too.

I think it was done by someone who has a stake in the strength of Indian military. Paralyzing Punjab would perhaps significantly undermine Indian military because I have seen many videos and photos showing that 90% of Indian military consists of Punjabis. Below are those videos and photos.

It is because RAW is retaliating. Tit for tat. It is paying back in same coin.

Admit it dude. It was intelligence failure. Don't give excuses.

It was RAW's responsibility because RAW's counterpart in other countries were involved.

Hardly There is some drug issue in our elite class but it was always there. It has more to do with proving themselves liberal than anything else. Pakistani Punjab is not even facing 5 % of what your Punjab is facing

It was RAW's shameful defeat at the hands of an organization which has a fraction of RAW's budget.
