WHY Pakistanis don't like the US?

Who likes a bitching bully?

This is what US has been to Pakistan, specially lately. Despite all the cooperation and help provided by Pakistan to US against Russia in cold war, role in establishing relations with China, support on othe rinternational issues, wht did US did? they imposed sanction on Pakistan during our wars with pro-Soviet india despiteus being memebr of SEATO and SENTO. Pressured France against supply of heavy water reactor, left us alone and imposed sanction again after war against Russia in Afghanistan, took back eight leased naval ships against norms, imbargoed F-16's despite accepting advance money, fought war in Afghanistan with our help, use our ports, roads, infra structure, helped by ISI to apprehend many top notch AlQuaida leaders and then attacked on our sovergeinity by raiding Abatabd without permission /information, killed thousand sof Pakistanis with drone attacks, sent thousands of CIA agents like Raymond davis, used a doctor in fake vaccination scam to jepardise polio vaccination program, keeps bragging about billions of dollars of Aid which is less than our cost on WOt, supports TTP in attacks agaisnt state, attacked and killed 24 of our sons, keeps threateing about attack on our nuclear assets, makes hoax cases against our millitary personnel, supplying weapons to our enemy,....................enough for a forum I think....

pre 9/11 we helped the us fight a proxy war against the soviets, that was the time that the threat was more about communism with the fall of berlin and end of germany captalism become the start of a new world system headed my america, well this meant that other ideologies were not really welcome with the captalist west and hence the targetting of islam as a major reckoning force most 9/11 events..currently i feel that america is facing multitude of ecnomic hardships based on the fact that they never really recovered from the financial drain of the iraq war lets see what the future holds for pak-america ties...

This question is fundamentally wrong. I actually like the US, its society, its culture, most of its laws. Its foreign policy wrt Pakistan is something I have some very strong disagreements with.

If Americans address those issues, we will end up as a nation that actually looks like it really likes America.

Well, if that is your yardstick to measure, then plz don't complain about the double games being played by Pakistan. Or plz ask the Americans representatives to not complain when we play double games, as their own history is rich with these double games.

Everyone has to see to its own national objectives. Right ??

Of course!

I have always consistently mentioned that Pakistan must pursue its own national interests, without regards to concepts like "friendship" or "loyalty". For example, Russia was a mortal enemy not that long ago, and now Gen Kayani is laying the foundation of a new, more cordial chapter.

And it is not my yardstick: It is the international yardstick, true for all times.

What the US representatives are doing is no less a circus, but designed to serve US interests. The more entertaining circus wins the audience.

It is a fair question on the face of it, but an equally important question is why increasing numbers in USA don't like Pakistan either. Such questions must be asked of both sides, to see what can be done to lay the foundations of repairing damaged ties, for mutual benefit.

...........
The media can sugarcoat all it wants, but the fact remains that there is no limit to American barbarity and cruelty. And its not only Pakistanis, most countries hate America!

The pursuit of national interests is supreme, and it is unfair to single out USA for doing that. ALL nations have done it throughout history and will continue to do it in the future. ALL nations, without exception. It is just that some do it better than others, for a period of time.

I've had debates with friends from all walks of lives and nations. It is very obvious that the sentiment in Pakistan is against the US.

However, I've never understood a few things and this thread is being created for us to all talk. PLEASE REFRAIN from emotional, stupid, and disrespectful messages. The PURPOSE is to find out a few of the MAIN reasons as to why Pakistanis don't trust the US as a friend. Please note that " they attacked our brother country called Afghanistan" is not a reason. Afghans hate Pakistanis anyway. Similarly, they support Israel isn't a very practical answer either. This is just the US foreign policy at work and Pakistan has that too.

The purpose of this thread is to really highlight some critical viewpoints from a PAKISTANI standpoint. What the US hasn't done for Pakistan to be its friend. What should it do to actually be a friend in an ordinary Pakistani's eyes.
Please participate in this thread as this will help us all in identifying some key aspects of average Pakistani's view points. Thank you.

one correction here, Afghanistan never was, not is, never will be a brother country to Pakistan.

I think the Pakistani distrust and dislike of the United States is actually quite justified.

I am no fan of the US foreign policy myself. I think its exploitative, aggressive and violates the sovereignty of any nation they are "friendly" with. If a country is not strong, and not supportive of the US foreign policy, they will attack you or be aggressive with you. This is what has been happening since WW2. No wonder Pakistanis are increasingly disapproving of US actions.

Pakistan needs an identity, people need something to identify themselves with. That is something which the founders failed to create, instead hate for one thing or the other was imbibed by the leaders to keep people together.

Only then will this cycle of hate will stop and Pakistan will go on a independent policy...

Sorry for going off topic...

If that was the case, they would have been a bit more nonchalant, like the Chinese, Brazilians or Russians. However Pakistanis are obsessed with hating the US. So the hatred is likely more due to religion.

Wrong on both accounts.

The hatred tap is opened and closed by clever manipulation according the requirements, and is surely not based on religion.

I think the basic reason for the Pakistani distrusting America is because Pakistanis are too emotional to understand that America has and always had and always will have its own interest in mind first. Pakistanis thought they could get the American weaponry and economic concessions in the three great alliances (50's, 80's, and 2000's) AND also claim America's strategic support. Wrrrongoo! Nobody forced Pakistan to join America's alliances--okay, may be the phone call by Armitage to Musharraf was an exception; may be an exception. Anyway, anytime Americans didn't offer the strategic support the Pakistanis cried foul: Ayub Khan had to write 'Friends, not Masters' for a reason.
America is like a giant corporation. It is driven to achieve its financial goals. Morality and friendship are secondary, except in case of Israel where America's interests don't align with being so pro-Israel (for that you will have to read Mearsheimer and Walt's 'The Israel Lobby'). Pakistanis completely misread America and I fear Pakistani may completely misread China one day in the same vein.
