Why Pakistan has abandoned F-16 Deal with US....???

it doesn't make sense to spend a billion dollars on a fighter which is to be only used against "terrorists"
there are too many strings attached with it.
i dont think Pakistan will go with any USA weapons unless of course somebody spend enough kick backs

Of course Pakistan will decide what it thinks is best for it.

ISLAMABAD: Why Pakistan has abandoned F-16 Deal with US

Pakistan and US had struck a deal for 8 F-16 Fighter jets which was to be materialised by May 24, 2016.

However US Congress did not approve the required funding of $430 millions which was to be provided as a subsidy to be paid by US as a partner of Pakistan in War against terrorism.

An amount of $270 million was supposed to be paid by government of Pakistan as the total amount of the 8 F-16 was calculated at $700 millions.

After US refusal to pay the subsidy of $430 millions Pakistan government has decided to abandon the F-16 Deal with United States.

Pakistan is mulling the options of acquiring some other fighter jets for its Air Force and the likely option includes Chinese J-10 or in future Chinese latest J-31 may also be considered.

It is not the first time that United States has betrayed Pakistan in this regard. After the Afghan War when Pakistan acted as front line state against the Soviet Union, United States did not deliver Pakistan 28 F-16 fighter jets for which even Pakistan had paid the price.

Pressler Amendment and the subsequent sanctions against Pakistan banned F-16 sale and it had to buy wheat and Soya been oil in lieu of the huge amount of money $658 millions that it had paid to US for the purchase of F-16 fighter jets.

While at the same time reportedly India has been offered by US F-16 sale along with the production factory.

Is it the replica of the betrayal again ?
For just 8 jets 700 million is to much

Time for PAF to forget F 16 and consider SU 35

It is said that a wise man is not bitten twice. US attitude in '65, again in '71 and finally the Pressler amendment should have been more then enough for us to sever military ties with US permanently as their reliability is quite predictable. The way the US is slowly and gradually abandoning Saudi Arabia......after sucking it dry for decades, is an example unlike any other. And it is not just with Muslim countries, the US has a long history of abandoning allies, after they outlast the usefulness.

It's not betrayal really, it is just very good business. They usually get the better deal because the weak are scared easy. I just hope that we wise up before we are screwed over any more.
CORRECT US find only its mean......As you stated they sucked Saudi Arabia....IT was because Saudia was the Largest importer of US arms and may be the largest user of F-15's but now they have started looking at other countries for weapons means no business for US and they ditched them not completely but to some extent.....

Yes Its time to consider but our ACM will not consider brother......They all are F-16 addicts...

You can get equally good fighter like EuroGighter/Gripen or Mig 35...Why are you so obsessed with F-16

Why not J series from China...You do not have hassle of any technology transfer issue...

No one would admit it here but J10s and J11s are utter crap. Even china has inducted only a handful till now for each series.

Plane is not worth that cash
I suppose that you have extensive experience of testing various birds to come to this conclusion, right?

Let us not cheapen the bird with our subjectivity. The deal didn't work out? No problem, we shall stop complaining.

One more thing: the cost of an F-16 Jet Fighter varies according to its specifications. What I came to know so far is that these 8 units would have been the most advanced variants that we would get. These were supposed to have more powerful engines and on-board targeting systems than earlier variants delivered to us.

The problem with pakistan is they always cry and show themselves as victim. Guys dont get me wrong here, you should come out of this mentality here.
I can see few sensible pakistani posters are actually saying what i'm saying.
This deal was good when Americans were giving you the planes at subsidized rate, subbenly it becomes "useless jets" and "planes not worth that cash" come on guys, you can get the product paying full money. That is the rule in the world, never expect too much of free lunch. You had so much of free stuff now learn to pay for what you need.
If not your new masters chinese can give you the J10, another non inducted plane in their own airforce like the JF17.

Nothing wrong with JF17 if that serves the purpose for you, but guys you always make fun of 'Tejas' atleast we know what we are cooking and what it will taste, and we are ok to learn from mistakes and evolve into a better platform.
Where is pakistan and what you guys are doing, you are getting more and more isolated and lonely, and in this situation you cant afford to loose only (so called) friend like china. and these chinese know this and they will not loose a moment to exploit you.

Very simple answer to simple question, budget constraints.

Boss it was US who saved you in 1965 when PAK war ammo was down to just 3 days. It was US which send 7th Fleet to hit India, unfortunately they were late. It was US which financed PAK budget several times with grants and other aspects.

Now think what your Himalayan friend did for you? Didn't supported you in 1971 or even in Kargil. Even military conversation which was tapped and released by India happened on Chinese soil. There are no free lunch from China..

Think again!!

That's funny because India is the slave of the US. You really think that the US is giving free lunch to India? You think that all the call center jobs and high tech weapons are being supplied as freebies? Think again. India is the new police officer of the US. You will do as the Americans say. Even if that means instability for the region. You Indians are on the payroll of a nation on the other side of the ocean. LOL I'm glad that Pakistan is moving away from such a nasty role.

Who cares about the F-16s anymore? Like you have already admitted, they were good as long as we were getting them subsidized. Now, the Yanks aren't willing to subsidize them anymore. Big deal. We'll move on and look elsewhere because with that kind of money we can invest in our own JF-17 or even get a new fighter.

LOL @ Tejas. Dude, don't even mention that plane. Indians are terrible cooks when it comes to cooking any hardware let alone a fighter jet. You have spent billions of dollars and imported most of the plane from abroad. Yet, despite so much help from the outside world this fighter is a failure like the rest of Indian projects. Indians only like to brag and talk big. We know what your DNA is made out of. It stinks.

Let the Americans exploit slumdog India. We are fine with China as our trusted friend and ally. At least our Chinese friends don't back-stab us at every opportunity. China invests billions of dollars in Pakistan which directly benefits the people of Pakistan unlike US poisonous aid which doesn't even reach its intended recipients. US aid is blood bribe and we are better off without it. In fact, American unwillingness to subsidize F-16s is a blessing for Pakistan. Finally, Pakistan will be forced to look elsewhere, be creative and more self-sufficient. America won't be in a position to scream to do more. For Pakistan it is only a win win.
