Why Pakistan had to Support Toppling of Taliban in 2001

The recent BS by Imran Khan in the Parliament and must BS in this forum about how the Pakistani Generals, especially Musharraf, 'sold' Pakistan for a 'Parai Jang' (foreigner's war) for some $$ just makes me enraged! Watch this interview by Khursheed Kasuri carefully to understand what options Pakistan really had then! Pakistan would have been destroyed totally had Pakistan not cooperated!!
Mr. Kasuri is the sharpest foreign policy mind in Pakistan and PM Imran Khan is just a demagogue when it comes to foreign affairs!

As Mr Hameed Gul once said that Pakistan nishana Hai. USA came here for many reasons, and one reason was to disarm Pakistan and secure India.
Musharraf stopped them. And then ISI continued the same policy of "cooperation", that ultimately caused USA to loose the war and exit Afghanistan without winning war.

Musharaf was a maha ch+++, all his retarted actions are why Pakistan is in such a big mess. Couldn't negotiate well with the Americans, created many fronts in Pakistan against it's own people, gave NRO, the infamous "Aman ka Tamsha" attitude that emboldened India, SAFMA, SAATH all these Indian funded 5th gen forums, started in his tenure. And one has the audacity to say mush had no choices? He had choices by the tons, and he choose the most retarded out of all those choices. No other general f+++ this country as much as he did. If Raheel Sharif was in his shoes, I can bet the results would have been much different and positve.

No one who is sane doubts the danger Pakistan was in and at that time it was imperative that we sided up with the US. However, what I have failed to understand is why Musharraf collapsed like a house of cards in the USA. He could have offered support to them on the surface but behind the scene he should have bargained hard for maximum leverage in favour of Pakistan.
Our problem remains that we were not in the negotiating room to be able to grasp the nature of the conversation that took place. Was there room for negotiations or was this a simple case of "do or die"!!
Till we have an independent account of the minutes and contents of the meetings between US and Pakistan it will forever remain a mystery. Did Musharraf sell Pakistan short for the sake of his own seat? or were things really that bad that there was no room for manoeuvring? This is the question that needs to be asked.

I m aware of this line of thinking but the question is under what duress and what was offered to him in return? We should not comment till we know what actually went on behind closed doors. However, I have always maintained Pakistan was sold short.

I agree with you, but it is such instances where being an elected and legitimate leader matters. You get courage and develop a spine to stand up to foreign bullying. You know your people are behind you, and will support you. IK has it, Musharraf didn't. One cared about saving his illegitimate rule, other doesn't care because he was put their by his people.

He should have been court martialed for his cowardice and damage he did to the nation of Pakistan.

PM Imran Khan Zindabad.

Look at all these humiliated Munafiqeen today making excuses for their cowardice and their beghairti.

Allah Aza'Wa-Jall has rightly humiliated them on this Earth for the whole world to witness and I pray Allah Subhanhu Wa'Ta'Allah shows them no mercy in the Hereafter as well.

I agree with your analysis. It is true. I am a supporter of Imran Khan however I too believe he distorts the actual events post 9/11 and provides a too simplistic position.

However, I also think that ground realities have changed now, the Talib of today are not the same of those of the 1990s.... As was stated by Kasuri in the interview

You are right about Imran Khan: Taking credit for the 'dialog' and 'peace' in Pakistan just like he often took the solo credit for the 1992 Cricket World Cup victory.

I too support Imran Khan but is constant crowing about him being the visionary who wanted peace with the militants inside Pakistan is a farce! The option of dialog with TTP was always present even when these thugs had destroyed even the peaceful Swat valley and occupied it for years until a strong operation was launched to remove them. As I recall, only few political parties in Pakistan such as PPP and ANP were openly calling for strong military action in Swat. Imran Khan went on his hollow and shallow 'peace overtures'. No peace would be possible without the use of strong force against these thugs!!

And you are right: Today there is a consensus in Pakistan, as Haroon Rasheed says in the video, that no bases to be given to America and that is because of different geopolitical options available.

Also, as @Menace2Society says above: It was Pakistan's VOLUNTARY involvement in the US war against the Soviets in the 1980s which lead to so many issues in Pakistan. The Pakistan of before 1979 was a much better, peaceful, 'normal' state then it was after 1989. But PM Imran Khan conveniently not brings that up.

The lame excuses from the supporters of Musharaf are an insult to the institution of Pak Army and the sovereignty of the state. Musharaf supported the US and in the return the US supported his illegal tenure whereas Benazir and Nawaz Sharif enjoyed their part of NRO and we are all being slaves of the corrupt ruling class till date!

Only good thing which we got at cost of idiotic and cowardly decisions of Musharf is that we started process of integrating tribal areas and started taking western border seriously and started fencing.

But IK is stubborn and will never admit that we can't negotiate with terrorists.

musharraf himself said we could have demanded 20 billion a year in caf and would have got it
and wht we got instead 410 rupees per container
200,000 containers crossed pakistan
do the math if just one container charged 1500$ (standard price worldwide)
that alone is 30 billion usd
giving up whole afghan land for free
4 bases
150,000 troops in fata after camp david visit anyone sharp enough to do the matb

Pakistan had lot of options. Also I want to tell you one thing. Over whelming amount of Generals in the Army pretty much all core commanders opposed Musharraf move. They have discipline that is why they followed it. And yes great move that move got us killed 70000 Pakistanis and we are still in a war against TTP and also Baluchistan on fire. So wow great move. How many Pakistanis lives would it take for you and others like you to stop defending that disaster known as Musharraf.

@Meengla

I can vouch for that, as I knew General Muzzafar Usmani - Corps Commander Karachi. This is the guy saved Musharraf's life by taking over Jinnah International Airport, Karachi and ensured the aircraft landed and COAS was safe. General Usmani himself opposed Musharraf from making any deal with the americans on WoT. Guess what happened, they got rid of him.

The point is, do not allow the americans or any other Western nation to get into matters which Pakistan's internal affairs. The zionist owned america, was specifically in Afghanistan for Pakistan. Their intent was to de-nuclearize Pakistan. Had it not been for Pakistan's Intelligence Agencies and the Chinese (above all Allah Subhanahu Wata'aalah), then today we may have had a denuclearized and balkanized, Pakistan

Musharraf was an egotist and a weak man. He might have been a hero on the battlefield, but in politics he was pathetic, time and time again. The NRO he signed was even more pathetic then the way he dropped his pants for Bush.

Post 911 Pakistan was threatened, we had little choice, but showing a bit of steel would have got us a better deal. We got paid a pittance, we didn't get any trade deals out of it, we got blamed for all their failures, we let them spread their war into our country, we let them appoint a government which hated us, we gave up key assets to them for nothing.

The country was disgraced. PMIK is making political mileage out of it, so what, he's not telling any lies.

From outside, it all looked like as if Musharaf was feeling very well in his seat of power.

1- America threatened to attack North Korea & Iran. They didn't bow down. America couldn't do anything.

2- Had America attacked Pakistan, india would have strengthened by it. India would have become another regional power behind China & a potential super power in future.
No way America can afford the rise of another power. They would have to fight india & china in 2020s had they attacked Pakistan in 2001.

There's no way they could attack Pakistan.

Imran Khan was right that Military Establishment sold us to America after 9/11.

In the days after 9/11 no one knew the death toll. I had feared 10,000-20,000 were dead. The final death toll was fortunately less than 3000. If 9/11 happened under Trump Pakistan would fold faster than you did under Musharraf

For starters Iran and North Korea are not stupid to harbor groups to attack the American mainland

I understand the misguided rationale for cultivating and backing the Taliban. It is absolute madness to allow Al Qaeda types to have entered Afghanistan

After 9-11 USA wants revenge. According to USA the guy responsible is in Afghanistan (it does not matter what the Pakistanis think about OBL). USA needs access to land locked Afghanistan. Taliban spouts BS about not handing guests to enemy.

Pakistan. As a nation off 230 million we need to have a firm stance against the Americans,And use our rights to deny or allow their requests we need to stop being pussys,And say what we actually feel like. One incident that hits close to home is that of Raymond Davis,That son of a bitch was allowed to murder my fellow countrymen,And we did nothing about it yet the Americans still had the audacity to demand his innocence,Even worse we let his accomplice's leave the country,Swear to God this incident pains my scars, Of thee old days, Whenever I recall that....Nobody had the balls to say shut the motherfuckin airports no damn American prick is leaving this damn land until we find these sons off bitches. But then my senses are knocked back in place and I see why such injustice was done to my people,A saying in Punjabi goes by "Ghar da Mariya Pani ni mangda Bhar da Mariya pani nu labda" Those who are hurt by someone dear to them are left off in worse state than those who are not. Sorry for my enrage,But am overjoyed with the news off Americans leaving Afghanistan finally these pricks cannot steal any innocents future from them
