Again tall claims based on nothing.Dude a massive own goal thanked by butt-hurt @Nilgiri
Do you have any idea what you have just admitted?
Think about it this way, a Pakistan composed of both Pakistan + BD would have a total economic output of 600 billion US dollars now. We are looking at defence expenditure of around 20 billion US dollars and so a cool 15 billion US dollars just from Jute exports.
Please tell me, without this jute, how would Pakistan be able to pay for it's consumer and defence imports as it had little other means to earn foreign currency? China and the Arab world was not in the picture then.
Also by 1970 the value of jute exports had gone down substantially and it would have been a lot higher up to the mid-1960s.
Without BD jute Pakistan could never have built the army to face India or have financed the construction of it's infrastructure. You are aware that in the 1960s the PA was considered a peer to IA? Now only the nuclear trigger is stopping IA from invading Pakistan.
This is page 20 of the world bank document (Link Included)
You can see for yourself that East Pakistan jute production hovered around 1 Million tons an year . Thats 560 Million Dollars worth of jute per year in Todays money in Today's prices. So it wasnt as big a contributor to national budget as most of you think.
The Pakistani military was built by Liaquat Ali khan in 1953 Budget when he spent 52% of national budget on buying Military equipment. Never again the country spent that much money on Military. Its been below 20% since then and mostly below 10% of national budget.
