Both left the caste system completely untouched, and it remains as it was before Islamic invasions began.

The invaders were able to ban so many things like Sati, temple prostitution, breast tax, etc. then why not caste system?

Did the Muslim/British rulers think there would be revolt if the ones at the top of the hierarchy lost all their privileges?

It's a pity that more than a billion Indians lost their only chance to break free of their lowly caste status.

Why should we intervene in Hindu religious affairs? Let them live according to their beliefs.

Caste system is slavery basically, in the guise of "religious affairs". Getting rid of it was the right thing to do, from a moral perspective.
And who are we to judge the Hindu religion?

Same way Japanese thought Emperor Hirohito was a living god.

So let people believe according to their beliefs.

do onto you as you do to others - or whatever they say
no Muslim would like others to interfere in their practices nor would the Hindus

right or wrong, every group needs to come to a conclusion on their own

Makes for easy governance.

Caste system is not unique to India. Sumer provides first account of such governance model.
I wonder if Indus people practiced caste system
I heard they didn't believe in a religion in the first place? but honestly I don't buy this

The original top caste was blood related rule like a government and state. They had belief in or accountability to the unseen Creator and they civilized people. Had nothing to do with the pantheistic idolatry and enslavement in Hinduism which came later by usurpation.

They had to deal with bigger problems like Sati, which was banned.

It was an easier way to control the population. You favor various groups separately and it'll keep a check and balance on each other.

The muslims actually did provide them with an opportunity. Become muslim and u are equal to all. Its the reason many hindus converted, they found respect and equality in Islam. Brits on the otjer hand had no intention of saving or fixing anyone. They were colonial looters and they sucked all the wealth they could.
