Why Malaysia might not Buy Tejas.

Tejas is a failed story. The biggest problem facing Tejas apart from every thing is turn around time of the jet. It is stated that getting it ready after a sortie takes ages as well. the jet is poorly designed.

Its essentially a down graded version of Mirage 2000. India tried to copy Mirage 2000 but they made it worse. After 30 plus years of one failure after another. The only smart thing to do is still to cancel the project.

Tejas is a fancy car which has no owners it is not even battle worthy u can put missiles on AIR india and claim to sell them every flying socer is not a fighter jet

Indian weapon expirt story is a complete failure. Only one country tried to use Indian choppers and they returned the junk after many fatalities. Just think, if India is incapable of maintaining a plane. What make them think they can make them. Hence, you see the continuous delays and failures of LCA junk. Its s failed product as much as a child is trying to run when the child can't even walk.

Tejas comes mounted on a truck. Would Malasia work well with the manufacturer of the truck?
Actuary W.r.t Specification, Tejas have little edge over jf17 Block II due to
8 V 7 hardpoints, Mix of Israel, russian & U.S.A technology with powerful engine. But JF17 is operational from 10 years & combat proven, as we used it against Taliban, & then air conflict.
JF17 has clear edge on price, low operational & maintenance cost .
But After induction of PL15, AESA radar, IRST It will appear as true deadly fighter.
While no doubt that still our block I and block II with AKG400, SD10, H4 missiles give good punch and making truely multi role fighter .

What I've read is that Malaysians will only consider Tejas if the Isreali avionics are changed which will add time and cost to any tender. At this point JF17 is the front runner to win this contract.

HAL is marketing Tejas Heavily to Malaysia but they have over looked one major issue and that might be the biggest problem in selling Tejas to any Muslim country.

The first problem in selling Tejas is the RADAR which is of Israeli origin and Malaysia don't recognizes Israel as a country.

India's state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has signed a deal with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI)/Elta Systems for 83 active electronically scanned array (AESA) radars and an equal number of electronic warfare (EW) suites to be fitted onto the Mk 1A variant of the indigenously developed Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA).



Industry sources told Jane's that the deal for ELM-2052 fire control radars and pod-mounted ELL-8222WB (wide band) self-protection jamming pods was "quietly" signed in late October after IAI/Elta emerged as the lowest bidder for the two compatible systems.

The IAI/Elta products were selected over systems fielded by rivals Thales and Saab, which had also responded to HAL's December 2016 request for quotation for AESA radars and EW suites.

The second issue in line is the Derby BVR missile which is also of Israeli origin and again Malaysia don't recognizes Israel.

There is a huge diplomatic problem from India to sell Tejas to Malaysia and the jet might be out of the Malaysian procurement race even before it is considered.

I agree with you... 100%... it is impossible... Israeli armaments + American heart (Engine)... lots of permission required...

By the way... do you know that it was Malaysia, who invited India to Participate... We have lots of MiG 21s waiting to get replaced...

You don’t sell jets rejected by your own airforce, with only 4 in service(under going tests).

Not unless you are selling to “wakanda” post apocalypse.

15 are in service... 16th within few days... production rate would be 24/year by 2020...

Yes there are too many countries involved. The engines come from one country Avionics and radar from an other. ejection seat from another. Actually this diverse procurement of parts is the main problem which is halting Tejas.

Procurement of parts is not an issue for domestic use... it will be a mess if exported...

In India, nobody is looking forward to sell it before fulfilling IAF requirement...

Obviously Malaysia would also need to buy plenty of trucks to mount all those wonderful Tejas - after all Tejas is the World's first 'Truck Mounted' Fighter Jet! :omghaha:

Keep eye on LIMA... You might get a chance to see the INVISIBLE FLYING TRUCK... on which Tejas is mounted...
