No, China should make compromise to America as we did make compromises to Russia in 90's, directly target the Japan, we will gain more than we lose.

No matter what America did, China oppose, disagree, vote objection. But 4 years ago, China keep neutral America bomb Libya. China keep neutural between Israel and Palestine. China don't have actual territory disputes with America. It's not a big deal we make compromises to America and cooperate with America about international affairs.

We didn't take Japan seriously, we paid heavy price in the past. We can't repeat the mistake again. Focus on Japanese, punish everytime Japanese probes and challenge. Here lies the problem that if Japan is to drill on the gas field, it will have to do it within the disputed area, whereas the Chinese oil rig are well within the undisputed area. The complain of a nation drilling within its own territory on an oil field that's shared across the border is non-substantial just as Iraqi's accusation of Kuwait "stealing their oil" by drilling on the border is dismissed by the international community.

This is your biggest problem: you think everyone who doesn’t align with your country is a pawn of another country. And I just don’t mean the regular Chinese civilians, but reading interviews and reports from your officials, it looks like your govt also have this same view. This is a big mistake of your country. It means that your officials don’t understand your neighbours, they don’t understand the relationships and dynamics between your neighbours and the US. Remember what your ancient said, know your enemies, know yourself......but its seems to me that your officials truly don’t know and don’t understand your friends and enemies. I don’t know about Japan and South Korea, but Vietnamese and Thai officials love it when your govt underestimate and mistaken Vietnam and Thailand as weak and powerless pawn being bullied+manipulated by the US. Putting on that image has been our modus operandi for centuries but it seems like your officials never learn.
