Why isn't India as developed as China?

India it seems has a lot going for it, the rule of law, democracy, everyone is free to practice his or her religion. China on the other hand is miles ahead of India, the development of the infrastructure, the economy etc. And all this under the communist rule, so why hasn't India developed like China?

It is like comparing apples and oranges.

Each region in the world has a unique combination of history, geography, and culture. Thus development must be compared within such context.

Heck we can't and shouldn't compare even Pakistan and India for any sort of "development" let alone India and China.

Should we say why India is not as developed as USA. Will that be a sane comparison?



Now if you must compare countries, you are in luck.

Compare S Korea vs. S Korea.

Same culture, same history, same language etc. and yet one country is world's economic power, and the other is a beggar


But such comparisons are not possible in a general way.

p.s. you may say "India must be developed like China in perhaps 40 years". That's a noble goal.

There are a few majority ethnic Chinese places in the world, my own city Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan and Singapore.

These places have a variety of different political systems. Not just a variety of different political systems, but a variety of different economic systems too.

It goes to show different systems can all be successful, in per capita terms HK/Singapore (hybrid systems) are ahead, in terms of sheer scale of development and numbers lifted out of poverty the Mainland obviously comes out ahead. Whereas Taiwan a democracy is somewhere in the middle.

All these different types of systems can work, it's the implementation that counts the most.

Han Chinese are like a hive mind. very efficient. Confucianism might have something to do with it as well. east Asians in general get sheet done.

take for instance India and it's military projects. Arjun,LCA, building a engine. these projects take decades and in the end they aren't that good. not saying the designs are bad, but it's the management.

I would say India isn't as developed because lack of central leadership.
