Why isn't bhangra and giddha practised in pakistan's punjab?

Dont know about Pakistan, but here in India, almost every boy learns bhangra and every girl learns gidha...
I learnt bhangra watching my elder cousins when I was about 6-7 years. Every boy in the family knows bhangra and every girl Gidha.
And this kind of stage performances are very very common thing in schools and colleges.
I have taken part in bhangra competitions all my school life.

You raise a good point...here in Pakistan i have never seen a coordinated bhangra dance like they do in India...the bhangra we are accustom to is freestyle in nature, mostly performed during weddings. There is ludi, which is somewhat cordinated, although i would not call it bhangra.

In mirpuri weddings the male's do the bhangra but they don't do giddha.

Because we got to define ourselves by wider Islamic World and Civilization---rather than by our indic culture.

Therefore, excessive dancing (as done by our indian punjabi neighbors) isn't looked positively in Pakistan--especially in a mix-gender setting.

This is also the reason our alcohol consumption rate is drastically lower than indian punjabis.

We do still have dances and cultural celebrations....but when it's the right occassion like wedding etc.

Alcohol is strictly banned by Islam.

It's haram (forbidden) and there's no argument over it. That's the reason Islamic World as a whole is the least "alcoholic" of places on entire planet by significant margins!

Regarding Music, Dance, and Smoking---there are arguments of whether it's allowed or allowed but undesirable

. Music and dancing etc should be within limit (no erotic) and should be to celebrate like a wedding etc. And shouldn't be inter-mix inappropriate touching etc.

Haram carries a huge weightage in Islamic law...

Only alcohol is totally haram agreed upon by entirely of Islamic tradition and scholarship.

Music, dancing, and smoking do not fall in this category.

And yes, Alcohol is banned in Pakistan (and other parts of wider Islamic World such as Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Libya etc etc)...Moreover, even where alcohol isn't "banned" straight out--it is a big taboo and socially unacceptable to drink for Muslims.

Muslims are, without a doubt, the least alcohol consuming people on planet. So much so--there was an argument in by one European businessman which said that Islamic immigration is bad to Europe because it has negative impact on alcohol industry

The MOST 'alcoholic', 'liberal' and 'western' Muslim country--Turkey--has alcohol consumption rate of 1.5 litres/person per year--- this is 10 times lower than Europe's average (2.5 times lesser than that of india's rate)...

And Turkey is an absolutely great anamoly in Islamic World when it comes to alcohol consumption...now just imagine the rest of massive, global Muslim World and how low alcohol consumption would be there...

The girls do lots of Giddha. If you live in area that are mixed with Sikhs and Pakistanis, when there is a Pakistani wedding the Sikh women of the street join in and visa versa.

My area is pakistani dominated and most of them are from the same village or from near by villages.
