Why is the southern part of South Asia more developed than the northern part of South Asia

same foreign rule brought progress and development to south as well.

Oh bhai, British occupation started from South and not north.

Occupation is just one factor.

there are several other factors that you tend to ignore.
Eastern India was for the longest time under direct British rule. And thats why Bengal, Bihar and Bangladesh are some of the least developed regions of South Asia. Only Afghanistan is worse.
On the other hand major parts of Kerala, Mysore in Karnataka and Baroda were never under British rule but were ruled by great princely rulers who did a lot for the development for these regions. During the British period Kerala, Mysore and Baroda were the most developed regions of whole South Asia and even today these regions are some of the most developed regions of South Asia.
The following kings contributed more to the development of their kingdoms than the British in any other parts of South Asia

Bengal Bihar etc were BIMARU long before British arrival. However Kolkatta was pretty daggon good in British time.

Sorry.

British era industrial revolution in Ahmdabad etc. saw textile mills and resulting prosperity.

So it depends on region to region
