What's new

Why is metro rail construction costlier in Bangladesh?

This is your 'better urban infrastructure' in your shining example of urbanism, Bombay (I don't call it Mumbai - so shove it),

Sort of okay considering your Kanjoosi kind...

So basically Dhaka is in the 2% percentile (137/140) , faring about the same as pit-sore warzones like damascus and tripoli, or open festering subsaharan hell holes like Lagos.

Its single year small burst "improvement" (2016 - 2017 example, when it isnt busy stagnating for years at a stretch given the 0 improvement from 2011 to 2016) is much slower than cities in Zimbabwe and Nepal even with its terribly low base effect.

And you want to compare with a city ranking in order of magnitude better percentiles, along the vicinity of where Istanbul is?

Suffice to say the pictures of Mumbai at its WORST are the BEST Dhaka can offer. Can simply youtube videos of Dhaka airport, Dhaka slums, Dhaka open defecation, tannery pollution, dhaka traffic journals, brave tourist visits (who won't return ever again and telling their friends to never go in first place)....you name it.....its just raw sewage effluent everywhere...and thats when the place ISNT being flooded.

What do BD people say about it right here in this forum?

Dhaka has to be the worst city in the world right now. It has become almost unlivable.
Distance between utrara and khilkhet won't be more than two kilometres but it takes almost 2 hours for me to pass this small distance. A pathetic city to live in from almost every possible angle.

https://defence.pk/pdf/threads/why-...l-suck-for-a-long-time-my-perspective.441599/

I head out and omg, this place is infested with people like cockroaches, everyone stinks etc etc. it takes me four hours to reach home at wari.

People in this country are scums, no respect for one another. Spits on the street, throws waste from the balcony, gropes women if they get the chance to. I am done.

We all agree that, infrastructure wise Bangladesh is much behind India. May be 10-15 years behind.

But we know why you Billu persist in trying to feel better by attempting to bring others down to Dhaka sewage level, you have a miserable low calibre existence in cali with the rest of your kind:

But still not enough to avoid having a 33% (or even worse) diabetes affliction rate in the US because of povertry stricken stupidity stricken rice only consumption. Lol look at this false bravado...

  • Indian bike makers can't beat our cost structure. Even with your economy of scale. Plus your red tape and bureaucracy adds costs we simply don't have in Bangladesh.
  • Long term offering of discounts to hold off lower end Bangladeshi bikes at 100cc and below will be deemed a money-losing effort by Indian bike-makers. You can't compete at the prices Runner can sustain.

 'Indians simply can't compete!'

Again, what is wrong with you??!!

Let us look at what BD government has in plan for Dhaka by 2035:

http://www.thedailystar.net/op-ed/politics/the-smartest-ways-deal-traffic-congestion-dhaka-1220956

"which proposed building five metro rail lines, two rapid bus routes, and 1,200 kilometres of new roadways—double the existing major road network—including six elevated expressways and three ring roads. The total public outlay proposed in the plan would be about Tk. 3.5 trillion over 20 years."

1. Five metro rail lines - Fast and on-time movement of millions of people everyday for business and pleasure.
2. Two rapid bus routes - Again Fast and on-time movement of people everyday for business and pleasure.
3. Six elevated expressways - These will be properly planned unlike earlier ones and will allow people to move from one part of the city to another part quickly without causing other traffic bottlenecks.
4. Three ring roads - Will help Dhaka both by allowing traffic that does not need to enter Dhaka to bypass it completely and allow traffic from Dhaka to Dhaka without going through the city for certain commuters.

The above plan will be mainly financed and constructed with the help of Japan's JICA - Metro line 1 is already being built.

Sorry but by the end of the plan, Dhaka will become a very liveable city.

Let us look at Dhaka Transport Master-plan 2035:

1. 6 Metro Lines covering the whole of Dhaka. Most people can use the fast metro to get almost anywhere for business or pleasure

Plan plan plan... Look at the goddamn time frames talked about here !!!

BD "plans" even when its by "private"/semi-private sector (say Walton)...and not by the severely corrupt, institutionally deficient and grossly mismanaged BD govt/bureaucracy (stuck in GDDS classification and junk rating for foreign credit and notably outside the economist weekly appendix as a result).....have very poor realisation w.r.t frontier "planning" and "projection".

The projection threads (from 2014/2015) about refrigerator, motorcycle, electronic, pharma etc etc (snapshot posted here already) speak volumes about this.....as does how BD has actually improved over time so far on the ground liveability wise and logistics performance index wise etc....you name it. Heck BD is even slowing big time in HDI in the latest years because it simply cannot fabricate at the same rate in education and wealth parameters like it did with health.

I don't go by artsy fartsy dreaming like BD force plan STRONK (leading to such day dreaming as saying next MM violating BD airspace will be shot down no questions asked)....I got by what you have charted so far and the clear trendlines there.

You are free to do so since you are from the place and you gotta believe and have hope....but its not solid rational argument. BD needs more of the latter than former....the former just lets the system continue status quo as it sees fit in the large buffer it has carved out so far of BD lackadaisical/uncaring/lazy attitude.....where paper optics/reality ratio is what matters rather than other way around.

Metro line 1 is already in the works. The 2nd and 3rd line studies have already been done by JICA.
China just extended massive loan for Padma Bridge railway with much more to follow.:azn:
China and Japan are investing heavily in BD infrastructure.

So care to argue how these projects will not give Dhaka one of the best transport systems by 2035?

Why would I care to argue anything about a GDDS, junk rating country future projection? I already said I go by existing trends.

The fact you have to go and pay through your nose (way more than India or pretty much any developing country ever did at similar stage) for JICA premium on something so basic, because thats the level of confidence you have in your own capacity, industry + bureaucracy is simply going to affect the ROI long term....and that too in the timeframe of just catching up to in 2035 where everyone else already is (capital city wise) cpl decades prior (and thus have cpl decades to improve and stay ahead by who knows how much).

Just like everything else in a country with a 20% percentile scoring in corruption govt....its optics/reality ratio....and you have to peddle it like the good dullard you are to the larger BAL/BBS fortune cookie selling.

Sure... if you can call it one that is. I’ve never had to spray myself with as much mosquito repellent at an airport (of all places) as I have had to at Dhaka’s. Even the only ‘lounge’ there is an absolute sh*thole!

Biloo/manbil777’s insecurity and desperation is well known across this forum, but the worst of all is his intellectual dishonesty. That’s a deplorable and sickening trait to have, and frankly, each time he lets loose here, one is forced to deduce that he has at best, had a madrassa education.

P.S: what’s a chotolok?
