Why is low income India spending more on defense than education?

.
You wouldnt even see this being even mentioned by Indian journalists who are so right wing and and racist its unbelievable.

Some home truths here, India hasn't been at War since 1999 so why this massive defence spending when you have the largest amount of poor people anywhere in the world.

This current Indian generation choose to buy guns for its army then provide education for its people. they choose to sling hate at anything pakistani online and support fake twitter Balochi accounts rather then stand up to their corrupt governments against poverty, toilet facilities rape etc.

https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/MS.MIL.XPND.GD.ZS

According to this world bank report, China spends 1.9%, India at 2.5% and Pakistan 3.6% of their respective GDP's on military expenditure while there have been reports that China's defense budget is much higher in reality than what is being stated. As long as the defense budget is under 3%, there isn't much to be concerned about

http://nationalinterest.org/feature/hy-chinas-military-budget-larger-it-appears-19716

Officially China spent $146 billion on defence in 2016, gdp was $11,200 billion in 2016. Thus officially China spent 1.3% on defence.

The highest estimate of total Chinese defence spending by western analysts places spending at $215 billion in 2016 by SIPRI Military Expenditure Database. This includes their assessment of China's hidden budget, R&D, Black projects, etc. The highest estimate expenditure was 1.9% of gdp.

China actually takes a very balanced approach to defence spending, in fact a relatively conservative one. Development is very expensive, more defence spending means less towards infrastructure and education.

Magic PPP won’t work for India

.
The $600 billion figure includes federal + states spendings I think.

@ashok321 @Nilgiri

Yup total spending is around that vicinity, around 620 billion for 2016.

Magic PPP won’t work for India

Why? I never knew we use USD (or foreign currency in general and at their home country price levels) for everything in India. Tell me friend, what is the USD based/derived liquidity ratio even in the GCF for India? Do you know where to start to get that figure anyway?

.
educating some dumb heads is waste of time but govt can certainly save dumb heads *** by spending more money on defence which is guaranteed to be at least a success.

OP data uses two different references. If we use standard total spending and GDP.... India spends around 2.5% of GDP on defense and around 4% on education.

Hope you can buy all those weapons in PPP

If it is 600b, so China’s single education budget is nearly their entire expenditure.
That’s really pathetic

K so you couldnt answer. Neither will you answer how much of even the govt budget sources from import or non-rupee liquidity in first place so we can have a % reference for what is being extrapolated when exchange rate used.

So China imports everything using USD for its local budget spending. Interesting.

As long as ppp magic can make RSSers happy, do it

. . .
I guess the number of india is education real dollars vs GDP PPP.....
Fake news

PPP is only good for comparison sake.
When you spend money, you spend actual dollars or Rupees.
Never PPP.
Don't listen to Bhakt crap who are out to misguide you and obfuscate to avoid the face palm moments for them.

Don't you know them enough by now?

.
Answer is very simple.

India has a 1000 year history of being subjugated by invading powers. They will not repeat it at any cost.
