Why is India so bad for women?

.
Right ... rights. What all rights>?

Lets have a conversation on womans rights and compare with the contemporaries of them in the region.

Lets begin.

Poll shows India worst to be in place

India is the worst place to be a woman among the world’s biggest economies and ranks even lower than Saudi Arabia, according to a global poll of experts released by Trust Law, a Thomson Reuters Foundation service, on Wednesday.

It declared Canada the best place to be a woman, while even Indonesia, South Africa, Mexico and Turkey fared better than India. “Infanticide, child marriage and slavery make India the worst”, the poll concluded.

“In India, women and girls continue to be sold as chattels, married off as young as 10, burned alive as a result of dowry-related disputes and young girls exploited and abused as domestic slave labour,” one of those polled was quoted as saying.

The Gender Inequality Index has also reportedly ranked India among the worst places for women.
India ranked at 141 among 165 countries analyzed by Newsweek magazine in the treatment of women, which was published in September.

Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, argued that although India was on track to become a global power, but her new power and prosperity had remained evasive for many, especially women. Despite economic miracle, women in India continued to face inequalities in opportunities which blocked them from fully participating in the growth process. It was blight on a country, which prided herself on having joined the league of hottest growth economies.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, stressed: We needed to empower our women in India; provide them better treatment under the law, better access to health-education-politics, and more opportunities for workplace participation; and open up more economic potentials for them.

Quoting scriptures, Rajan Zed pointed out that ancient Manusmriti said: “Where women are revered, there the gods are pleased; where they are not, no rite will yield any fruit.” Number of Rig-Veda (oldest existing scripture of Hinduism) hymns were said to be composed by women, and Aditi, who was sometimes referred as “mother of the gods”, found mention in Rig-Veda as a goddess.

TrustLaw reportedly asked aid professionals, academics, health workers, policymakers, journalists and development specialists with expertise in gender issues to rank the 19 countries of the G20 in terms of the overall best and worst to be a woman.

We all are in the same boat. Don't pontificate.

Kindly take at look below . I am intentionally not pasting the photograph from the Chinese paper.

Notice two things which are common across nations with regard to attitude towards women :

1. Lawlessness & rowdyism.

2. A defensive approach either by denying the incident or blaming the woman for the way she dresses.

Several women were sexually assaulted on Thursday during festivities to mark a local water festival in the island province of Hainan, according to eyewitnesses.

Around 8:30 am, several men tried to touch some women's breasts, tearing their clothes during celebrations in Qixian Square, Baoting Li and Miao autonomous county, a website run by Xinhua News Agency reported.

Li Min, a tourist from Wanning in Hainan who has participated in the festival for the past five years, told China Daily that four or five women were assaulted after an opening ceremony, and the attackers were taken away by police.

"There were more than 1,000 people on the square playing with water at that time, and most of them were very young," he said, adding that he was standing on the second floor of a building overlooking the square.

"I saw a man take off a young woman's clothes, while similar situations also happened to four or five other women who were playing with water in different areas of the square at the same time.

"Later, police came to restore order, taking the men out of the square," Li said, adding that he couldn't tell how many men were taken into custody.

Huang Dingyi, from Haikou, capital of Hainan, who also witnessed the incident, said he saw a woman being molested by a man wearing a hat and a red scarf.

"The woman slipped when she was attacked by the man and she hit the attacker with a water pot," he said. "The police rushed to stop the disorder from a house on the square and seized the man, who was in his 20s."

On Thursday afternoon, media and netizens published photos of the festival celebrations on micro blogs.

A publicity officer for the county, who did not want to be identified, confirmed the incidents but said only one teenage girl had been sexually assaulted.

Some witnesses might have been mistaken about what they saw, according to the officer.

"It might be the carelessness of the girl wearing a vest playing with the water," he said, adding the real situation was not as serious as netizens described.

In addition, Wang Xiumei, head of the county's publicity department, said the public security bureau has been investigating the case and trying to determine how many women were attacked.

"We are paying attention to the case and will disclose the number and newest information as soon as possible," she added.

On the seventh day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar, China's traditional day for lovers, Li and Miao ethnic groups offer water sacrifices, which has led to locals organizing a festival to attract tourists and residents to play with water.

you have your own sick boat to row on!
We have sporadic cases happening to our women which we regard as one too many. india has a whole library of these tragic incidences against their women, and the volumes are growing which do not seem to have an end!

easy to say difficult to do.Would you do ban ban polygammy allowed under religion for man or would you allow women to be polygamous with 4 husbands in order to be both equal?
