Why is India not allowing Bangladeshi TV channels?

Refusal of Indian access to Bangladeshi TV channels
No legal bar in India to down-linking of Bangladesh TV channels

From these links it mostly looks like there's no legal obstruction for BD channels as to access to India, rather it's harder for BD channels to comply with the guidelines provided by the Indian govt which are much more stricter than BD guidelines regarding downlinking of foreign channels. That is, again the question is one of equitable relationship. I think instead of pleading to India for an easy access reviewing our own guidelines for downlinking foreign channels would be proactive and more practicable .

Nobody will watch it anyway.

West Bengalis and Tripuris will definitely watch it. There was a time when they might have forgotten to watch any Indian channel but never missed BTV, state owned channel in BD.

Typical Indian daytime TV programming is Saas-Bahu theatrics. Typical Bangladeshi dramas (ten years ago) used to be adaptations of plays by Bertolt Brecht - highly intellectual and thought provoking. Bangladeshi TV programming has become a lot more populist of late but still enjoyable.

Language is not an issue or barrier, it is a flimsy pretext to prevent broadcasts. You can use sub-titles.
