Why is Brazil ranked above Pakistan?

Sorry, but Brazil should not be rated higher than Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia or Israel. Pakistan is already 100% easily above Brazil by a good margin.

Brazil air force currently only has 5-6 Jas Gripen with a total off 36 on order. They only have 5-6 4th generation aircraft. PAF has 200+. Infact Pakistan old Mirage would be enough for Brazilian air force.

Brazil army main MBT is the old 1960s 2nd generation Leopard 1. Which they have 450. Compare that to 3rd generation Pakistans VT-4 which 170 are in service as of right now and 300 on order. 500+ 3rd Al- Khalid and 320 T-80UD 3rd generation tanks. Thats close to 1000 3rd generation tanks.

What huge navy? They currently have no aircraft carriers, no helicopter carriers, no destroyers, no corvettes, 7 Frigates, 6 submarines and 22 Missile boats. That is pretty comparable to Pakistans Navy.

Brazil should not be in any top 10 list. Definitely not above Pakistan.

Only those Pakistanis will compare Pakistan to Brazil who haven't been to Brazil. Its like a European country for the most parts , with pockets of poverty.
Pakistan army's performance in the last 2 conflicts in kargil and 71 , against a 3rd world opponent was dismal. Brazil with its developed industrial infrastructure will eat Pakistan for breakfast.

Pakistan has been fighting a war since 2002, its been 19 years now, almost the same as USA's war in Afghanistan. While some NATO countries packed up and left Afghanistan, even though they were economically stronger than Pakistan, the Pakistani Military is still fighting a continuing war on 3 fronts - LOC ,western border and troubled areas inside Pakistan.

Ever heard of the saying "armies march on their stomachs"? Brazilian economy is far larger than Pakistan and could sustain a war. What would Pakistan do? Approach IMF for a loan to fight a war?

This is not based on that. If you have no idea then please stop giving hilarious replies.

As a military historian you should know that most of these NATO countries have a history of having far greater war stamina then Pakistan or India could ever match. By stmina I mean fighting, fighting and fighting until every family has almost lost a man and all the women are workling for the war effort. These countries would lose the finest crop of their youth in one day then Pak and India have in 70 years of war.

Battle of Somme ~ 19,000 dead on first day with 300,000 dead by end of the battle.


However the public in these countries have no stomach to lose men in a Asian country on other side of the world. Just like Pakistan would have no 'fight' in sending men to death in far away Iceland. But attack them on their turf and see what will happen.

I am not taking away from the military of Pakistan. As I have said before it is the only functioning institutiion largely because it is organizationally a relic of the British and it's DNA has nopt been tampered with by desi culture.

But the fact is Pakistan' economy is shambolic. The country could not fight a full scale war for longeer than 4 weeks before money for fuel and supplies runs out. The reason why the economic is weak are complex and certainly beyond the WOT as it was anaemic even before that. The reason for that is Pakistan has a lazy rent seeking business class who just live off the monopolies the political economy has created in which they manipulate the market to rape the consumer. The recent sugar crisis is case in point.

Even foreign companies begin to indulge in such practices within the political economy of Pakistan. The Japanese car companies are case in point.

If the stamina was there then most of these economically strong countries shouldn't have left or reduced troops in Afghanistan, and do bear in mind that some of them just sent token troops. On the other hand, Pakistan increased its number of formations and equipment of all forces in past years, during war period. The WOT is a full scale war, at its peak, it involved formations from almost 4 Corps HQ, apart from paramilitary and police. These are roughly the same number of formations involved in '65 war, yet its been almost decades while there is no end in sight to this war since 2002.

Brazilian military saw war in last century, where as Pakistani Military has been at war throughout its existence, barring a few years here and there among wars or LOC skirmishes.

Brazil's Navy is no where near as powerful some people in this thread make it out to be. It is on the same level as Pakistan's Navy. Even if you look at tech they are on the same level as Pakistan.

Not to mention that PAF pilots are some of the best trained.

Comparing army they have arond 450 old outdated Leopard 1s. Pakistan has 170 VT-4s in service with total 300 on order. Also 320 3rd generation T-80UD. Around 500 3rd generation Al-Khalids. Better artillery, more soldiers in active and reserve personnel. More and better Attack Helicopters.

The only place where Brazil might be stronger is Navv. But that should not be surprising considering their huge coastline. Also even in that they are not that far ahead.

So what might be the reason? Pakistan should be 9th and Brazil 10th in reality.

The simple answer to your question is that it depends on how one measures various factors that go into military power.

E.g., if you value economic output by GDP, then yes, Brazil will get a lot of positive weight and possibly even outrank a country with more military equipment. On the other hand, if you put more weight on available military equipment, Pakistan would do better.

People do not realise; Brazil has a straggering leap in terms of technology, economy, innovation. They are not concerns about land forces because mother nature has given them the best barrier of all on the land mass front.
Pak is decades behind where Brazil is in every sense of the word.

Try take tanks thru the tropical jungles. The tanks are just for show nothing else. Why need to spend on military when mosquitos and malaria and mother nature are the best defence of all.
