Why Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipeline is Important

Pakistan 6th rank is not bad and India fertilizer production is about 4.5 times higher than Pakistan, Qatar is an exception. India population is 6.5 times higher than Pakistan so per capita Pakistan is better. But true Pakistan need to get IP pipeline going...took a back seat during Sharif govt.

Also so much hype about new oil gas discoveries in Pakistan, all need to be commercially exploited like in Karak KPK, somewhere around Baluchistan, forgetting the name. Local production need to be streamlined on fast track to save precious foreign exchange.

Not bad lol. We have gas reserves and India don't we should be the biggest exporters of urea.

.
Pak-Arab is owned by Saudis if they don't want us to buy irani gas subsidise fertilizers. They should stop oil sales to our enemies as well let's be true brothers for once.

. .
so it was pertinent to mention India and that India draws herself away from that Iran/Pakistan/India gas pipeline,

Wrong again. It was IPI FIRST according to the contracts signed. Pakistan just would not do anything like laying the first mile of the pipeline to Iran because they were too afraid of the Saudi and US reaction. India realised after many years thet Pakistan had no intention of letting gas transit to India even though they would receive a hefty transit fee from India and India would have to pay if it wanted the gas. The Iranians reluctantly agreed to to the IP because they felt that would galvanise the Pakistanis into SOME ACTION. Pakistan said to Iran build your side and we will build our side but they lied to the Iranians again. Iran build its side (costing billions) and waited and waited and waited. Finally the conniving Pakistanis said we are broke, pay us to build our side of the pipeline. This is when it finally dawned on Iran that the IP is for internal consumption only and Pakistanis are spineless and would never defy Saudis or the US.

I might add that TAPI where the pipeline terminates in India is also another game being played by Pakistan whereby they let everyone else build the infrastructure and then get cold feet at the last minute when it comes to Pakistan laying any pipes.
Like Reko Dik Pakistan is going to be dragged through the International courts for breaking contracts after everyone else has spend billions.

Hahahahaha...this is really funny assumption...here I want to give it to you on your great sense of humor, tongue-in-cheek, rather tongue-out-of-cheek wordings.

We have had gas reserves, not anymore...barely viable now.
We have gas reserves for 20 more years. Please go check the new stats.
Pakistan is also going to increase its domestic oil production now.

I have nothing against any one. Saudis should start selling us oil on CNG price and I am happy we show middle finger to any pipeline. USA is occupying 3 Muslim countries to meet its energy needs and we are not allowed to buy energy just because Israel hates Iran wow just wow.

We produce 62% of electricity using fossil fuels. What about climate change and greener world using natural gas will decrease pollution by 60%. Electricity bills will go down by 25%.

Urea prices surge to Rs1,800 per bag, as supplies dwindle
During the last nine months, the prices of urea have risen by Rs450-550 per bag from Rs1,250-Rs1,300 per bag

https://profit.pakistantoday.com.pk...-surge-to-rs1800-per-bag-as-supplies-dwindle/

A single crop of wheat takes 3 bags of urea that means additional Rs 3900 cost on the crop of wheat per acer.

Our total wheat production 25.3 million tons in 2016 spread the cost of increased urea price and what is the amount of money we are losing.

India draws up $8.7 billion plan to turn urea exporter

Neha Dasgupta
2 MIN READ

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India aims to become a urea exporter by 2021 as the South Asian nation has drawn up a 555 billion rupee ($8.7 billion) plan to revive mothballed fertilizer plants and set up gas import and pipeline facilities in eastern India.

The fertilizer plants would raise annual urea production capacity by 7.5 million tonnes, fertilizer minister Ananth Kumar told a news conference on Thursday.

India produced 24.2 million tonnes of urea in 2016-17. The country’s farm sector accounts for about 15 percent of its $2 trillion economy and employ three-fifths of its 1.3 billion people.

The country imported about 5.4 million tonnes of its fertilizer needs from countries including Iran, China and Iran during the last fiscal year ending in March.

“From an importing country, we will become an exporting country,” said Kumar. “For food security, we need fertilizer security.”

The expansion includes building a 2,650-km (1,590-mile) pipeline, the revival of four urea plants in northern Uttar Pradesh state, eastern Jharkhand, Bihar and Odisha states, and building a liquefied gas import facility all at a cost of about 500 billion rupees, oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan said during the news conference.

A separate fertilizer project at Ramagundam in southern Indian would cost 55 billion rupees, he added.

The fertilizer projects will get natural gas as a feedstock from Adani Group’s 5 million tonne a year liquefied natural import facility at Dhamra in Odisha.

“We have derisked the project... all the expansion will be on imported LNG,” Pradhan said, adding the projects will be in operation by between 2020 and 2021.

Pakistan fertilizer production is also on the expansion.

However, with the advancement of technology and increased number of players in the industry, production capacity has increased to over 6 million tons per year, from 4 million tons earlier, which has consistently been surpassing the national demand over the last few years. Furthermore, the consumption of fertilizer has increased manifold due to heightened awareness among farmers that its usage in good quantity is fruitful for higher yields and a significant increase in their income as the commodity is provided them on subsidized rates.

China’s hybrid wheat successfully grown on large scale in Pakistan

China’s hybrid wheat, using the two-line hybrid technique, has been successfully harvested on a large scale in Pakistan, according to a senior official of a Chinese company which has conducted field trials of hybrid wheat varieties and realized on average 24.4 percent increase in crop yields.

“Our company has sent many experts to Pakistan to teach local farmers how to plant the wheat.

Around 150 experts have been sent to Pakistan, where they visited over 20 cities,” Song Weibo, Vice President of Sinochem Group Agriculture Division, China’s biggest agricultural inputs company and integrated modern agricultural services operator told the Chinese media.

The two-line hybrid technique is often used in hybrid rice and wheat. It can increase wheat production by 20 percent.

The hybrid wheat has been proven to outperform standard wheat in terms of yield, water usage and resistance to disease.

Chen Zhaobo, General Manager, CNSGC Hybrid Wheat Seed, a subsidiary of China National Seed Group Co under Sinochem Group Co, which is responsible for the hybrid wheat promotion project in Pakistan, said the tests on the hybrid varieties were implemented in 230 sites, spread over 2,000 hectares of land, mostly in experimental bases or local farms.

PTI government has announced they won't be pursuing the Iran Pakistan gas pipeline cause of the sanctions and they have already talked it out with Iran and they assured them they won't be taking the case to the International Court as they were thinking of doing before.

PTI Did Not Say That They Won't Be Pursuing Ghulam Sarwar Khan Just Said It Is Less Likely.

From every angle the Iran gas import makes sense. Do you know any other country in the world that is facing crippling energy shortage but right next door exists some of the largest energy reserves in the world? Pakistan should be the second biggest beneficiary of these huge reserves after Iran itself. How is this even possible?

The whole of Eastern Europe profits from cheap Russian gas yet being part of the western order these countries are pitted against putin's Russia. Countries as far as France even get Russian gas and Germany is the largest Russian gas importer. You will never hear the US demanding all of Europe giving up Russian gas as it would send Europe into economic tailspin and shut down most of these countries.

So how so is Pakistan suffering from crippling energy deficit yet have been blessed by having a neighbour with some of the largest energy reserves in the world. There are three reasons in order of importance. I could point out fourth which is Tehran itself in that is is being ruled by a obstinate mullah class that will not see sense but that is their personal business.

  • USA ~ Pakistan has over the years become a door mat to the Americans. They shout and Pakistan says "how high" and then come up with some flimsy excuse later to cover up the craven, servile behaviour. Top of the list is when Musharaf gave his backside to USA when they mentioned "stone age". Which raises the question if they mention "stone age" again will Pakistan gave it's backside again? With this frame of mind the US is used to extracting from Pakistan unfair demands that hurt Pakistan's interests yet in this uneven relationship the US expects still more. Instead of Pakistan being sore because it is the victim of US policies it is America that acts the victim and you see Trump act on that in his tweets. Pakistan lost Afghanistan to India or should I say Pakistan gave Kabul to it's enemies in 2001 at US behest. In addition to that Pakistan has not gone ahead with benefiting from Iranian energy reserves like every other country does. I already touched on how all of Europe profits from Russian gas even if America is a rival to Russia. The combined cost to Pakistan from the Afghanistan 'sale' in 2001 and the failure to purchase oil/gas from Iran exceeds 10 ten times anything that US has given to Pakistan as aid. Pakistan prostituted itself to US on the cheap.

  • Saudia Arabia ~ This country is in conjunction with it's ally USA not prepard to see Pakistan get any oil or gas from Iran. Since KSA shadow looms large in pakistan it has used is influence to prevent Pakistan from gaining benefit from Iranian energy reserves. The horrible part is KSA has failed to offer a viable alternative. It could have offerd a oil/gas relief to Pakistan on a permanent basis but it has not done so. USA and KSA are the primary reason why Pakistan has been suffering from energy deficit.

.
They should stop oil sales to our enemies as well let's be true brothers for once.
Bingo. A coin has two sides. The tragedy is Pakistan always gets cheated. We get the brotherhood with restrictions but KSA is free to do what it wants. Trade and shower $ billions in remittances to our enemies. That is 'just business'. Of course it's not "just business" if we want to import gas from Iran.

You have had many many years to build your side of the pipeline as per the contract You have already stiffed the Iranians out of billions by asking them to build their side of the pipeline. You have not and will not import gas or oil from Iran whatever chest thumping you do on PDF. It was Agent47 that brought India into this discussion even though this is about Pakistan and I was disabusing him about concocted fantasies .
ok. let's talk about "concocted fantasies"... ever heard of Superpower 2020, Shiny India? ... I am sure you have... Also, my so-called "concocted fantasies" are apparently being supported by many reliable online sources ... use google. I shared one such link in a previous reply, answering to which was apparently not worthy of your precious time. I wonder why? Also, Pluralist pointed out similar sources supporting the OP content. So, how is it all then a "concocted fantasy"?? seems like you are just being adamant about it, and it doesn't matter what I or anybody else says, won't budge...

And now to address your other fine point,"It was Agent47 that brought India into this discussion"... First, bringing India into discussion is not a crime, since our defence and foreign policy is heavily influenced by what India does in the region and otherwise. Second, I merely restated what many sources have already been confirming for quite a while now, you should have done your research before getting triggered. Also, I was under the impression that this is "Pakistan" Defence Forum, not "India" defence forum, so pardon me if I mistakenly presumed mostly Pakistanis will take interest in the content.
