Why India should retain its No fast use policy ?

India should retain no-first-use policy against non-nuclear states and should cancel the no-first policy against nuclear declared states.

Simple!

i dont think india has to worry about being occupied by any external invader at this point, keeping the NFU policy earns india political points while at the same time it does not lessen security as no one would want to test whether india would stick to that policy if it actually started losing badly in a war

India should give up its nukes voluntarily if the UN agrees to some policy of making all of Asia - nuclear-free. If neither India, China nor Pakistan had nukes - all of Asia would feel safer. Let the Americans and Russians target nukes at each other - why can't Asia take the lead in making the world a nuclear free zone?

The Americans then nuke you. You cannot retaliate. Your country dies and the fat Americans continue eating their McDonalds. No way. The world does not deserve to exist without China in particular and Asians in Asia in general. Nuclear weapons in China, India and Pakistan have prevented at least 5 wars from either starting or from escalating. Let's keep it that way.

No
Because America will target at others.

Acquisition of Nukes and Nuke technology is quite like virginity - irreversible once the deed is done.

No country who goes thru the effort of acquiring nukes will ever roll it back, and even if done will retain the ability to assemble a weapon at very short notice.

This is not true; South America is nuke free - Brazil, Argentina gave up right to build nukes. From what I recollect, so did South Africa.

Its not about being occupied by others. Its about handling unfriendly policies of neighbors.

Pearl of Strings and Mumbai 26/11 attacks among others.

The next time, India will hit back.....

India's no first use is seen by many as India's weakness. India should exclude Pakistan and China from that policy, meaning India will not hesitate to initiate a pre-emptive nuclear strike.

Do you actually think they they have destroyed the technology they had / have and cannot build a weapon at short notice ? They have the delivery systems.

Although the thought is plausible, it wwill never become reality. Why?

- China will never let go of its nuclear arsenal till the time US is nuclear free. And we all know that aint gonna happen in a long long long time, if at all.

- Pakistan will never let go of its nuclear weapon, because of the widening gap of conventional war hardware with India. Although it may sound pompous, we all know the nuclear weapon is THE only deterence available with pakistan and it can never withstand a conventional war with India in present scenario.

- The less we talk about North Korea is better. They don't even need any reason for nuclear prolification. Then there is Iran & Saudi/ Israel equation. The last I heard was that the Gulf countries are interested in developing a combine nuclear programme to counter possible future Iran.

Although I equally endorse the idea of nuclear free world, the sad fact remains the it will not happen and there is every possibility that nuclear weapons will expedite the world's untimely demise/ semi-demise.
