Why India must support Nasheed in Maldives row

oh really and how it gives India any right to officially interfer in Maldivian affairs?

We are the aid givers to Maldives and we also helped them in every department they have and we have shared history, and we are the ones who has to give them asylum when the islands sink below sea level if the global warming predictions are right.

If the bolded part gives the right for US to intervene in Pakistan why not India do the same help to Malidives.
We don't want some external guy to meddle in our neighborhood which also harms our interests.

Well, the person came to Indian embassy not any anywhere else. The embassy premises are the property of India as per international rules and we will decide what to do. When it is India, the neighbor's blood get boiled. They may ask for intervention in Syria and no problem with France's intervention in Mali.

Just mind your business, if you feel our 'outside intervention threatens ur interest...then come back to us.

He only came for seeking asylum and its perfectly legal to give asylum to an elected representative removed illegally, the current government is not legally elected by people.

he came to Indian embassy because India was patronosing him but maldivians thrown him out.

and above all the Maldivians have the right to storm Indian embassy in that case.

Maldives is a member of UNO, UNO will direct the proper action if the people of Maldives are against the current govt. There is no need to interfere directly.

MALE: Indian diplomats are "interfering" in the country's affairs by sheltering former Maldivian president Mohamed Nasheed in India's embassy in Male, a senior Maldivian government official said on Saturday.

Nasheed has remained at the Indian embassy since Wednesday after taking refuge there to avoid being arrested over his failure to appear in court last weekend to face charges of abuse of power while he was president.

"The fact of the matter is that some individual Indian diplomats are interfering in our internal affairs. This must stop," a senior government official told AFP, asking not to be named.

The official echoed home minister Mohamed Jameel's remarks that no country should prevent a citizen of another country from facing charges.

Jameel, in a series of tweets, stopped short of naming a specific culprit, but in a thinly veiled warning asked India to stay out of the affair.

"I would strongly urge everyone to let our institutions deal with the challenges, allow Maldives to uphold rule of law," Jameel wrote soon after Nasheed took shelter at the Indian High Commission compound in the capital Male.
An earlier statement purporting to be from the Maldivian judicial service commission (JSC) condemned the actions of India's envoy to Male.

However, the commission in an email to AFP later said it had not issued the statement, with a JSC spokesman telling AFP that the letter had been a forgery.

It was a "false statement " on a "forged letterhead", commission secretary Aboobakuru Mohamed said.

Nasheed's party says it considers the charges of abuse of power against him to be politically motivated. A conviction would prevent him from holding public office.

The country is slated to hold presidential elections on September 7.

The government says the warrant for Nasheed's arrest has now expired and that he will not be arrested. However, Nasheed's party said they could not trust the regime.

The standoff comes amid political turbulence in the Maldives, one year after Nasheed — the nation's first democratically elected leader — was ousted by violent protests and a mutiny by police and security forces.

The United States and the United Nations, as well as India, have called for free elections in the nation of 330,000 Sunni Muslims.

Again wrong, there was nothing like Arab Spring type regime change in Maldives, it was an illegal coup.

Current regime is not elected by the people but Muhammad Nashed was elected by Maldivians. Pakistanis may not value elected government but other parts of world do and current government is illegal according to international laws.

If Maldivians supported nasheed they would have came to roads.

secondly if maldivians were against their current educated and wise president they would have over thrown him.

lets the people of Maldives decide that NOT India.

oh by the way how many years it has been that India is supporting Maldivians govts? if you can state

Rule of law does not say that you with the help of military and defense secretary overthrow the current government without any elections.

Rules of law also do not give India any right to interfer if that happens in a country.

you are just supporting trouble in Maldives after the current govt shown resistance to Indian bullying case of the airport case

It was a military coup with the help of defense secretary. how many came out on the streets when Musharraf took over the power. It took Pakistanis 10 years to come on the street.

And the former President made a mistake by arresting the Justice and that was wrong so ..for this reason India did not interfere. If he went by law and then got thrown out by coup only at that time India would have directly intervened.

Muhammad Nasheed has every right to seek asylum and protection because current government who came to power by illegal means has no right to punish him.

The decisions taken by this regime are not valid and what ever you are talking in favor of this current regime is also not valid. People of Maldives will decide their future but not under the corrupt military regime who came to power by a coup.
