Funny how bilial has deteriorated the thread to Pak China. :P

India US China Japan Vietnam equations will play out in Asia Pacific. Last I checked Pakistan was working to

1. liberate/occupy Kashmir (since 1947)
Result - three wars, loss of half of the nation, rise in militancy at home, an army with a nation and an unfriendly India, a deteriorating economy

2. and achieve strategic depth in Afghanistan since 2001.
Result - deterioration of relations with US, further rise in militancy at home, a failing economy

Its understandable if you say people voted PPP out of sympathy for Benazir. But please don't say people were hoodwinked into believing that Benazir will be PM,while Zardari took the seat.Benazir died during Election campaign, voting happened after that.

In pakistan we vote for different political parties and than after voting the MPA's and MNA's of these political parties decide who will be president and who will be prime minister.

.
There is a tussle within India between the pragmatists who want to steer a peaceful path to India's rise, and the jingoists who want validation and affirmation of India's power through global adventures.

The US is courting the latter and counting on them doing its bidding, albeit unwittingly.

Neither pragmatism nor jingoism is necessarily inconsistent with allying with the U.S.; the reasoning applied for doing so will be the only difference.

Anyone (Americans, Indians, others) can say whatever they want, the work China has done in helping Pakistan develop its infrastructure (& economically as well) is noticed by every Pakistani all over the country. The Chinese development work is visible all over Pakistan, & it impacts people in a positive way. Which is why Pakistanis appreciate China. China cannot replace the US, Pakistanis don't want China to replace the US (& dictate terms to Pakistan, by using economic assistance as blackmail). Pakistan realizes that it has to learn to be self-sufficient, & its working its way to just do that.

Dumping ground

Pol Eco, NOS, The News International

China has exported goods worth around $ 11 billion whereas Pakistan’s exports could hardly reach $ 0.25 billion.

Another misbalance in this respect is that Pakistan imports about 1,000 items from China while the latter’s export-basket is limited to hardly 50 items.

Pakistan exports items like seafood, cotton yarn, leather, marble, fruits, sports goods, rice, raw hides and vegetables. On the other hand, China exports almost every thing available under the sun to Pakistan and that also at very low prices. Mass availability of these goods at low rates has pushed local industry out of competition.

Industrialists say China dumps a lot of goods into Pakistan but no action is taken for various reasons.

The biggest of these is that Pakistan does not want to take even a symbolic step that harms friendly relations between the two, they add.

a report prepared by the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) reveals that due to the dumping of China clay crockery from China, the pottery industry of Pakistan has disappeared from centers like Gujranwala and Gujrat. The report says out of a total of five units, four have closed their commercial operations. These are Prey China, Dada Bhoy, Pakpur, and Regal China while the last one -- Lone China -- is on the verge of collapse.

What say you BILAL?

Sixty years of US aid to Pakistan: Get the data
As the US announces it is to withhold military aid to Pakistan, find out how much money America has given to the country since 1948

The Obama administration has announced it will withhold more than one-third of all military assistance to Pakistan - an aid envelope worth some $800m (£498m). The withheld aid includes funding for military equipment and reimbursements for selected Pakistani security expenditures - including a payment of $300m for counterinsurgency programmes.

US aid to Pakistan has a long political history and this is not the first time money has been withheld. Here we've pulled out all the figures for both US military aid and economic assistance (including development assistance) to Pakistan between 1948 and 2010.

The dataset comes from Wren Elhai, at the Washington-based Center for Global Development (CGD), who in May published a report along with Nancy Birdsall and Molly Kinder analysing the long-term impact of US aid to Pakistan. The numbers - which come from the US Overseas Grants and Loans database and the Congressional Research Service - have been adjusted for inflation and are presented in terms of the value of the US$ in 2009.

US aid to Pakistan, 1948-2010
Some highlights:

• US economic assistance to Pakistan peaked in 1962, at over $2.3bn

• in 2010, military assistance to Pakistan totalled $2.5bn - including $1.2bn in coalition support funds

• US assistance to Pakistan reached its lowest level in the 1990s, after President George H.W. Bush suspended aid flows over Pakistan's emerging nuclear programme

• US military assistance dropped dramatically during and immediately after the Indo-Pakistani wars of 1965 and 1971

• in the 1970s, President Carter suspended all aid to Pakistan (except food aid) in response to Pakistan's decision to construct a uranium enrichment facility

• although US assistance (both economic and military) to Pakistan has fluctuated considerably over the last 60 years, it has risen steadily since 2001

Pakistan has historically been among the top recipients of US aid - since 1948, the US has sent more than £30bn in direct aid to the country. Nearly half of this has been for military assistance. However, since Osama bin Laden was discovered and killed in Abbottabad earlier this year, US president Barack Obama has come under increasing pressure to justify US aid spending in the country.

Although military assistance is currently the only form of US aid to Pakistan to be withheld, Congress has considered other - as yet unsuccessful - bills to also block US economic assistance, and civilian aid to Pakistan will no doubt be up for debate again next year, as the 2012 budget battles get underway.

What can you do with the data?

Wrong figures. These are the correct figures for the exports-imports situation of China-Pakistan:

According to the figures released by China Customs, the total Pakistani exports to China last year were US $ 1.7 billion compared to US $ 1.2 billion in 2009.

Since 2006, Pakistani exports to China has been gradually climbing. The total volume of Pakistan-China trade rose by US $ 2 billion to US $ 8.7 billion approximately.

Last year, textiles, ores and mineral products, leather, chemicals and plastics, sports goods, iron and steel, surgical instruments showed the trend of faster growth rates.

In 2010, Pakistan’s imports from China also increased by US $ 1.4 billion and the total volume of imports from China stood at US $ 6.9 billion. The trade deficit right now for Pakistan is US $ 5.2 billion.

From 1947-2001, Pakistan has received about $30 billion civilian aid, & $8 billion military aid. Since 2001-2011, Pakistan has received $21 billion (including both civilian & military aid). Most of the $21 billion hasn't been received by Pakistan either, & some of it was payments by the US to Pakistan for providing it various services. So let us include $21 billion for argument's sake. So, the grand total becomes $59 billion. Pakistan has incurred over $70 billion losses from the WOT alone.

China has done development work all over Pakistan, & continues to do so till this day. When one goes to Pakistan, they can easily see everything has done in developing Pakistan all over. Pakistanis recognize this effort from China. Don't need to prove anything to you guys.
