Coup would have been better than kangress 50 year rule. India was under British rule for 200 years and under Gayndhi monarchy for 50 years. Apart from a few good years of governance after independence( Leaders like Lal Bahadur Shastri etc) and a few good years under Indira Gandhi, kangress did nothing. Orangutan and chimpanzee could have ruled better than kangress

Simple answer: Every one performed their assigned job well...Politicians did right politics... Army did right job at keeping up defenses... everyone took care of each other and that generated mutual respect...

You can't run a professional military and be the national govt st the same time.

India has had bad leaders but our military has always respected govt.

As for the idiots telling us the Indian army. Cant run anything
My answer is our generals are far smarter far more mature and respected because they dont mix politics.

There never has been a coup in India because as in Air Marshal Carippa's words

Look at it objectively instead of mere name calling. The credit for a strong democratic culture in India should be given to Nehru. He ensured election after election even though he knew he was going to win the first few times at a great cost to the exchequer and in fact wanted to nurture a healthy opposition. His stock fell dramatically thanks to China in '62 and then his brood which ruined the country. From what I have read about Pakistan, the power still stands in the hands of wealthy landowner families and most of their elected representatives come from these families. Nehru's land reforms ended Zamindari. All of these are extremely important points, why a political class was created from ground up as on opposition in various states while the Congress obviously was a political party. I had read that Maneckshaw once refused Indira Gandhi's orders to shoot at private citizens whom Indira termed "American agents" - I wonder if someone here can shed light on that phase.

Back to the topic, no coups in India give it an international stature as the world's largest democracy in many ways, direct and indirect. May be the uniforms see value in such advantages?

The best thing is that it would be irrelevant even if they did not. Institutional foundations, despite of the corrupt and lazy bureaucracy, are iron strong. No coup is sustainable in India and I don't think our Jernails would like to repeat this rather failed model presented by our various neighbours.
