Why high-tech item makers are shifting focus from China to India

If you look at PISA 2009 score Mexico labor pool is better than India, well almost the entire world labor pool is better than India... BTW In the US Mexican worker are know for there work ethic they can out work any American.. A good labor pool as it is related to manufacturing is for a company to have access to workers( in large numbers) who can read/ write so they can communicate and read work instruction in a manufacturing environment. By this measure India is way behind in developing a manufacturing base labor pool, when comparing to most third world country.. Indian need to listen to
Amartya Sen

PISA 2009 also mentions :
xecutive Summary (page xii)
Ten additional partner participants who were unable to participate within the PISA 2009 project timeframe participated in the PISA 2009 study on a reduced and delayed timeline. This is known as the PISA 2009+ project. The ten PISA 2009+ participants administered the same assessments as their PISA 2009 counterparts, the only difference being that the assessments were administered in 2010. The PISA 2009+ countries or economies were adjudicated against the same technical and quality standards as their PISA 2009 counterparts*.

* Himachal Pradesh-India, Miranda-Venezuela and Tamil Nadu-India did not meet all PISA standards (for student sampling) and their results should be interpreted with caution. See ‘Sampling outcomes’ in Appendix A for details.

Data on student populations and exclusions were not supplied or were of insufficient quality to report the following for Himachal Pradesh-India and Tamil Nadu-India [Appendix A - page 101, Table A.2 - Population Coverage Indices - page 102]:
- the number of 15-year-olds in the country/economy, including those who are not attending educational institutions,
- population of 15-year-olds enrolled in grade 7 or above which is the estimate of the PISA eligible population
- number of students from the PISA eligible population who are potentially included as part of the PISA sample

Himachal Pradesh-India and Tamil Nadu-India did not meet PISA standards for student sampling. Due to irregularities in the student sample numbers, it was established after the testing that these economies sampled from student lists that were often incomplete: not all 15-year-olds within the school were listed. It was not possible to determine whether any bias existed in the obtained sample. Caution should be exercised when using the data from Himachal Pradesh-India or Tamil Nadu-India and when interpreting the reported analyses.

But yes Indian Govt needs to take Amartya Sen seriously

Why did India refuse to participate in PISA 2012, Pisa is design to show strength and weakness of a country education system so that it could be fix and be upgraded.. By not getting involve in this process India is turning its back to improving the education system for its vast population. Ignoring the problem does not make it go away...

I guess the current political party wanted to escape the embarresment. But yes, India needs change in education methods.

Currently the Govt is focusing on quantity, that is to reduce drop rates from schools.

State alone cannot train and educate vast masses of students, so the private colleges opened up everywhere and their standards were not up to mark. So, what we achieved in quantity by absorbing so many students did not translate to quality education. But the market forces will reshape who will survive and who will perish.

The government should do nothing, let them fail along with the student ... If the government don't get involve, the private sector will educated only a few and leave the majority to perish that mean millions and millions of Indian left uneducated... Having millions of uneducated populace left to perish is not a good way to develop a stable economy..
By letting the private sector select a few million to be educated and export to serve 1st world economy, while leaving India with millions of uneducated populace will be failure on an epic scale..

For example if the US is looking for cheaper labor than China why would they go to India.. Just south of us is a country call Mexico who labor cost is cheaper than China.

All these country have better labor laws and much better infrastructure..
Yes! But you require better brains too! :cheesy: Mexicans are nowhere near Indians where brain power is concerned! Nuff said!

reading math science
425 419 416 Mexico
337 351 348 India (Tamil Nadu)
317 338 325 India (Himachal Pradesh)
India did so bad that the government of India refuse to take part in PISA 2012..

"Talent pool"? Indian manpower may be one of the poorest quality in this world. Look at the educational quality (PISA test, Math Olympiad, computer programming test etc.), India ranks far behind any country mentioned. Not to say about Indian average IQ.
