This the Gold medal tally for PRC at the summer olympics in 2008 held in Beijing. The Chinese are such a Dominant Force at the world level when it comes to Individual sports.

But somehow the success in team Sports is not at the same scale.
Recognised Team Sports like Basketball,Hockey,Handball,Rugby,Football,Even Cricket(not an olympic Sport).

I would request the Chinese members to discuss the reasons for the same.
Correct me If this observation is wrong.

.
Team sports require time , money , participation , talent , venues , promotion , management ,interest etc

Football has been around in Australia for many many years but recently weve only just started becoming good at it on international Level (last match we beat germany in germany;) ty) meanwhile the Domestic A-League is still struggling to compete against AFL and NRL.

However with Chinise football many commentators noted that the chinese team has actually gone backwards on what it was a few years ago.

Rugby is trying to be developed in China(Hong Kong) with the Rugby Sevens tournament and also All blacks vs Wallabies matches there.

Rugby is also succeeding in Japan.

Hmm, what a thread! isn't it there is only one gold medal for each team sport? americans dominate in basketball but do they dominate in others team sports too? why don't you do some more research of which country dominate all or most of the above team sports you mentioned?

PS, sorry, no offence, but its kind of awkward for people from a well known sport midget nation to raise such an issue, how many olympic gold medal india got so far? 1?

For the record, India won 1 pistol gold in 2008 -- the most team oriented sport yet.

But clarifications aside, snyc diving, team gymnastics, badminton, rowing are all team sports. The events you mentioned (excluding cricket) are all considered intensive sports. The mongoloid build is no match to that of Africans and euroids. The same fault applies to South Asia caucasoids as well.

It troubles me to this day how wrestling is divided into weight classes, but a 6 foot plays the same basketball game as an 8 foot. Maybe Shorties' games don't sell?

Euroids and caucasoids are the same thing arnt they?

I think the initial question is somewhat misleading. It is not so much about dominating team sports, as in competing against other countries, but about the presence and eminence of team oriented sports in one's own country. In the US, those would be 'football', basketball, and baseball. For Britain and Australia, for example, it would be 'football' or soccer and rugby. Do note that I quoted 'football'. For Japan the most prominent would be baseball and Japanese players have made the professional circuits in the US.

I wish China Will soon become a Cricket Nation.................. .. They have started working on it..........

. . .
the chinese will coe up,eventually.what are the traditional games in china?

. .
I don;t know about other team oriented sport but i really hope China can improve in soccer performance. Girl seem to perform much better in team sport. As for cricket, i think it's too boring for my taste, do you know how long a cricket match can last???

Hmm.You had to bring India in.

India is not a sporting nation as of now.The sports culture is missing with us(along with the govt. apathy). The same cannot be said about China or else why such domination in Individual sports.
If yes then why not a world class team or a world champion in any major team sports.

Its just that I want to learn more about the my north eastern neighbours sports culture.Probably we can learn from them and emulate their success.

If you cannot contribute with good reasons then please let me learn.

Thanx
