Why does Pakistan have an affinity for Turkey?

I'm not familiar with the term "Hanafi", would you please explain it?

It's one of the four madhhabs of Sunni Islam. Hanafi madhhab was adopted by Turkic rulers and that's why regions that were ruled by Turkic (Sunni) dynasties are mostly Hanafi.

Interesting, TIL. I thought it was Sunni/Shia and that's it - turns out there's further subdivisions.

What the hell, why everyone is looking at Pakistan's like & dislike. We love turkey so what is your problem?
I don't have a problem. I'm confronted by a phenomenon I can't understand and I want to understand it.

It is a good question. It prompts answers that make me learn everyday. :)

Subdivision itself is not the point. It just shows there's some historical religious/cultural/linguistic similarities because of long period of Turkic rule.

South asians not just Pakistanis have traditionally been supporters of the Ottoman empire also aside from that Turkey is one of the few friends to Pakistan they have genuinely been "ride or die" also personally I find turks to be nice and not racist unlike other ethnicities (arabs/persians)Many pakistanis also go to Turkey to study so I guess they have a special affinity for it.

Turks have treated Pakistanis well when they go to turkey. my cousins have been and said they are very welcoming. just don't mention, are you're Kurdish they go mad lolz.

I have a few questions for the Pakistani members here. I've noticed in my time here that a lot of Pakistani members have a (to me) strange affinity and cultural closeness to Turkey. I can't say if it's something that generalizes since I don't know many Pakistanis and their views about Turkey have never come up in conversation. So, my first question is is this affinity widespread among Pakistanis?

This bonhomie is something that I've noticed runs deeper than just affinity for a fellow Sunni Muslim state. For instance, I've never noticed Pakistanis here express similar feelings for Morocco or Algeria. Maybe Saudi Arabia, but that's more explainable by the large Pakistani diaspora there, its wealth and support of Pakistan, and its custodianship of Islam's holy sites. Turkey can't be explained in this way. What, in your opinion, is the reason for this closeness?

Also, and this has irked me somewhat, I see Turkish armaments held in higher esteem here than they should be. Pakistanis here seem to view them as equal, or superior to, Chinese weapons. That's simply false - Chinese weapons are more technologically advanced and far more price competitive. The only exceptions to this (and only on the technology front) are when Turkish manufacturers partner with European ones - in which case Pakistan is just buying the European stuff by proxy.

Turkey doesn't give Pakistan any special financial, diplomatic, or military support. Why the love?

To us Pakistaniz, Turkey was our leader and we want it to be our leader oneday again. Khilafat

Love needs no reason!

Originally it was due to cultural similarities mixed with historical crossovers over time it was proven and has withstood the wrath of time!
No negative ratings for me here? I'm shocked!
You and I both know there was nothing wrong with my posts in the other thread. But the whole incident inspired me to look deeper into this question.
I can't say I completely understand it (and the people kind enough to reply to my thread haven't, by and large, said much beyond affirming their warm feelings toward Turkey), but I think there's a decent enough analogy. As a Canadian, I'm meant to feel a similar warmth and affinity to Britain as the "mother country." As you might have guessed, I don't share that sentiment. Surprisingly, even Americans feel it, and they fought tooth and nail to get rid of British control.

Don't you think that would be an affront to Pakistan's sovereignty?
