Just a couple points that should be made clear.
Russia already has a ton of oil, and that's not including potential reserves in Arctic territory.
Also, nearly all Syrian oil exports went to the EU under Assad.
Just like USA why would the Russian want to use their oil reserve when they can someone else.
Also just like Iraq if you can take someone oil for less and have control of their oil production why not go for it. When the west take control of oil production in middle east, then those nations needed oil will have to beg them for it.
