Why does America want a base in Bangladesh? (And why India isn't amused)

We want the Bangladesh Navy in Bangladesh. A base over there results in Airborne assets and naval assets. Not just a listening post. It provides for a force projection? A single base sitting over there, with naval assets can fine tune the acoustic signatures of our subs. Do you want that? So no, ensure that BD has its own capabilities.

Dude Bangladesh has its own problems to solve. It isn't going to invest in Defence as priority as it isn't prority for them. They will welcome anyone who will help them to build their nation. Be it India,China or USA. They won't care as long as it is in their interest. China and USA are already trying that. So be sure there will a base in BD. now it's upto BD to choose who's :D. India can protest but can't stop it. Fact.
Plus to fine tune the acoustic signature of Subs you need to be in close distance. IN sub base is well inside Indian waters. So if they want to do it they have to enter Indian water. They can't do it from BD water. Well and for rest of International water they have covered it decades ago ( in 1980/90) so that isn't anything new for them

the Americans would opted/pushed to have done the same in Sri Lanka-- had they not been misguided (partly by the indians) into believing that Sri Lanka committed so-called ''genocide'' during the end of the civil war.

Sri Lanka and B-desh have one thing in common; China still holds much sway and influence -- militarily and economically

.
You have no idea. As per bangladeshis's here- BD governemtn is Indian dalal/ stooges... :D so both chinese & US will have to answer to BD AKA indian stooge government...

the govt. -- yes.

but they are playing a balancing act. There always has been a military-civilian divide in that country but it hasn't ever reached boiling point -- at least not lately.

anyways, not my area of interest so carry on.

This is according to my own fantasy projection:

- If ASEAN+ union materializes and Bangladesh becomes a part of it, then Bangladesh should go with US base till ASEAN+ navy takes over that base
- If ASEAN+ is not a possibility and Bangladesh does not get entry into ASEAN, then we should go with a Chinese base

This bifurcation of road or decision making is at least 10 years away. In the meantime, the US may get berthing facilities but not a base.

And RAWamy stooges are pretty much history in about 1.5 years, with or without election. There will be a civil war to finish off RAWamy traitors, if these idiots try to hold election without Care Taker Govt. So India can do jacks*it once they are out to influence our internal decision making.

Just out of curiosity, has there been any recent progress in terms of Bangladesh joining the ASEAN? apart from the million threads that you have opened on the issue of course! :undecided:

India in on very good terms with all the ASEAN countries, and has no conflict of interests, unlike China. We have a FTA with them and bilateral trade is shooting up every year. We have regular military exercise with countries like Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia. So if you think that ASEAN would pick a fight with India for Bangladesh's sake then you are wrong and overestimating your importance.

Bangladesh can serve as the trade transit point between India and ASEAN, I don't see why else ASEAN would want to you guys in. Bangladesh will be a drain on their resources. There won't be any Bangladesh in ASEAN+ without India in the picture.

Roybot; How dare you question Kallu Miah? Unlike you; he is the one who decides "geo politics" around Bangladesh.. you do not know his power in influencing international policies behind the scene :partay:... in short "He is the ONE- Chosen one" ...

I just love this thread, whenever the news from Pakistan is depressing I just come here for some  Now guy's since US of A is desperate to set up a base in Bangladesh I see a very serious problem. Those Yanks are bloody obese, man they are huge. So with a base full of them I would be very concerned in case Bengla-land slides into the Bay of Bengal. This could be even a ploy by the nasty Indian's to erase Bangladesh from the map. Don't say you were not warned.

So you guy's need to open another thread, titled "Engineering solutions to create sufficient ballast to offset US serviceman carrying excess lard from slipping into the Bay of Bengal."

Apparently pumping air underground can help. And millions of threads, I thought it was more like billions  :yahoo:

Peace to all my Bangla 'brothers'.

Thts was not even funny man... although it was pretty stupid.

You can't "hide" a US naval base in BD. Particularly if you have a democratic country. These kind of things "leak" out one way or another. Besides, there is opposition with the Awami League on this.

You are sick in the head. Get counseling, immediately.

The image depicts the flight path that the proposed Next Generation Bomber (NGB), being sought by the US Air Force, might take to strike targets deep within China. It is important to note that CSBA is the leading think-tank analyzing the need for the Pentagon's new AirSea Battle (ASB) concept, which looks to develop joint naval and air force doctrines and systems that would allow the US to defeat so-called Anti-Access/ Area Denial (A2/AD) weapons, and thereby continue to hold targets deep within any hostile nation's territory at risk.

lol...

There isn't going to be any base in Chittagong. After all, Bangladeshi political climate isn't that stable. Why would they want one there? Both the US and Bangladesh officially denied claims of a base. The former not only once, but twice.

He is quoting the US think tank.
