Why do many Chinese believe that Western democracy is a plot to make China weak?
In my opinion, American style democracy would definitively be a step backwards for China.

“Democracy is the rule of the mediocre by the incompetent” The majority of voters are of below average intelligence and they put people in power who are like them.

Most of the elected representatives in the American Congress would not even make it into the lower ranks of the National People’s Congress of China. (There are only 3 people with a STEM qualification in the 435 member House of Representatives in America)

Only 3 of these people have a STEM qualification!

You will end up like America with a woefully under-educated population.

43.1% Americans have “Below Level 2” literary skills
Adult Literacy in the United States

You will end up with 11.8% of your people living in poverty. Poverty rate US = 11.8%, China = 0.7%

Poverty in China - Wikipedia
America has a 1,040% higher poverty rate than China

45,000,000 Americans live like this

You will end up with a huge percentage of your population in prison
Mass Incarceration: The Whole Pie 2019

Although America makes up only 4.2% of the world’s population, it’s 2.3 million prisoners make up 24.7% of the world’s 9.8 million prisoners!! Prisoners/100,000 of population: US = 655/100,000, China 118/100,000. America has 5 and a half times more people in prison per capita as China.

2,300,000 Americans live like this

You will end up with a country that can no longer maintain it’s infrastructure. https://www.cnbc.com/2017/06/05/...

Crumbling road in New Hampshire

Buckled by high water but not repaired yet

You will end up with a president like this…..

I could name many more reasons but this is becoming a bit tedious.

There is no perfect system in the world. Every country's political culture and system has to accommodate their unique history, demography, and geography.

Singapore on paper is a democracy, however in practice Singapore is more 'authoritarian' than most democracies because the PAP (ruling party) has won every general election since 1965. This allows continuity in most of the government policies and agenda, and the process of choosing political leaders is not dissimilar to China's.

Younger ministers have to climb the political ladder by taking on different ministries, accumulate experience, and prove their worth before taking on key ministerial roles like the Minister of Defence and the Minister of Finance. Before becoming the PM, one has to be the DPM to learn on the job for some years which is quite similar in China. This is quite different from some Western democracies such as the US where you can become the President without holding any prior political positions (Trump). There is a steep learning curve.

However ultimately they still have to renew their mandate every 5 years come general election, and they do have to respond to the people's needs or they have to pay the price. For example in 2011 and 2013 they suffered an electoral setback because housing prices spiked with the strong economic recovery after the recession. They introduced strong measures to tame the prices and prices have remained stable since then, with income growth outpacing housing inflation. They won a resounding victory in the elections in 2015.

Choosing the leaders is a function of both democracy and meritocracy.

If you're interested. The PM explains why and how Singapore's political system is what it is. History (inherited the system from the British and Malaysia when we gained independence), demographic (multiracial with a Chinese majority), and geography (a small city-state in a not-so friendly neighborhood). And he contrasted it to other countries such as the US, Europe, China, and Australia.
well put. also I enjoyed the speech of Lee Hsien Loong. His speech makes a lot of sense.

But we must not ignore Singapore is very small, and it founded on the legacy of Chinese culture and people.
  1. The culture of Singaporean changed quite a lot in past a few decades, but some of virtue of Chinese kept, such as hard working, self self-restraint, saving hugely, invest a lot to children education.
  2. Those virtues can only be found in Confucian culture sphere, such as China(both Mainland and Taiwan), Korean(both north and south), Japan, Vietnam, Singapore. But the rest of Asian countries are different.
Last but not least, without China in East Asia, all small nations will be looted again, no matter what political system you have, no matter how hard you try. It's because of China, they have to leverage your nation and keep friendly. Otherwise, East and South East Asia's future will not be much different from ME.

Hi there why are you living in the USA? You still haven't answered, is the question too difficult?

.
The West have been trying to control China since they first step in China. Any medicine that the West recommend is bound to be poison. It is a modern day civilizing mission with the aim of destabilizing. Name 1 non-white democratic country without US military influence and independent.

.
If you go reedit, there are a lot of China bashing.
If you go Quora, it's the opposite.

How long MSM can still stuff Americans and the people all over the world with rubbish fake news and propaganda?

How long US can still call herself democracy, but actually Kleptocracy, or Plutocracy, kind of Dictatorship.

.
Biggest irony is that western democracy will get weaker as China gets stronger. Some day westerners will be wondering if it is China plotting to weaken the west.

I bet your prediction will be proved.

Not realistic. I am not saying you can't get rid of those lobbies, but you can't get rid of human nature which is greed.

As long as a system open to all party, ideologies, religions, colors of skin, races, gender, ages, there will be difference, and people will naturally fight for resource. That's human nature.

There have to be some one, some system on top of all interest, suppress the conflicts to certain level, decrease tension, and serve the common good. Which in Chinese, we call it Heaven 天

There is no easy solution, or political system which can be installed in any societies, or countries. It must grow organically on their social soil, culture.

What failed India is they installed a Christian liberal democracy inherited from western culture and value, but India can NOT adept and digest.
that concept of someone supreme to rule & serve the common good is quite akin to a King who will return from Heaven to earth to set up a kingdom ruling the world with justice & mercy!!
