I wonder if a family in possesion of just an acre of land is supposed to be considered the so called "landlord"? - In a village of 400 - are all supposed to be the so called "landlords"? Let me explain you what sharecropping is. Lets say I have land but dont have time to cultivate. You do not have land but have time to cultivate land. So we make an agreement that you cultivate my land and we share the money earned from selling the crop 50% each.

the difference is :

In China, nearly all peasants have land. If peasant A has no time to cultivate and thus he lease the land to peasant B.

In India, many peasants have no land, and they have to lease land from landlords or other peasants.
