Why China might be a better superpower

China won't be a superpower.Where have we seen this film before?:" East Asian nation, populated by very intelligent people, feels that it has been humiliated by westerners stars to industrialise fast, grows a powerful economy ,arms herself to the teeth ,considers Asia HER rightfull sphere of influence and wants to kick 'evil whites out',thinks it's powerfull enough and acts on her thoughts.

Gets beaten to a pulp. The end"

China didn't learn anything ofcourse, unfortunately i don't think that in this day and age, with this technology in wars they would be so lucky as the japanese.

China has never said anything about kicking the "evil whites out" of asia. in fact your friends and allies the Japanese right wing want to do that, not China. Shintaro Ishihara and other Japanese right wingers believe Japanese are racially superior to everyone else and that Japan should dominate other asian nations and kick the white out.

China also has nuclear weapons and ICBMs which can incinerate the entire world, your right that someone wouldn't be lucky if they started a war with China but that someone wouldn't be China.

That's just some bla bla from some japanese politician with no consequence to the country's foreign policies. As to China you can see it on this very forum ,most chinese members have an inferiority complex and deep hate towards westerners, you don't even realise that in this century our countries have abandoned that "white power " stuff,we are now multi ethnic, multicultural societies. It is not even West vs China as many of your neighbours openly despise you because you act so agressively:Vietnam,India,Japan,S. Koreea,Phillipines, etc, they will all be to happy to lend a helping hand in your demise. If you think that nuclear weapons will be a perpetual guarantee of peace as we progress into the future and advance with technology you will be badly dissapointed.

:omghaha:

Go to Japan, and if you know Japanese language, eavesdrop on Japanese people and see what they think about American military in Japan and other asian countries. Politeness goes a long way in hiding contempt. They despite virtually all other races, they just don't kill or attack people like skinheads do.

As for despising other coutries, most of Indias neighbors - Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lnaka, Bangladesh despise India. Cambodians and Laotians hate Vietnam. Philippines has claims over Malaysian territory in Sabah. Thailand and Cambodia also hate the hell out of each other over a temple of a religion neither of them practices.

The most right wing, Malay nationalist leader said China is not a threat to Malaysia.

Malaysia's Mahathir says China is no threat - AJW by The Asahi Shimbun

Mahathir: China no threat to Malaysia

Koleksi Arkib Ucapan Ketua Eksekutif

Mahathir Mohamad

The country of China and Malaysian Chinese are viewed differently by the Malays. Malay nationalists don't view the country of China as an enemy or a threat, and in the Philippines one the current president's grandfathers was a Chinese.

You also forget, while the Philippines and Vietnam may work together in ASEAN and only claim parts of the spratly islands, Taiwan claims the entire island chain like China and refuses to recognize or work with Vietnam and the Philippines. Most Vietnamese and Filipino women in Taiwan are mail order brides and are looked down upon.

Vietnam Demands Taiwan Cancel Spratly Island Live Fire Drill - Bloomberg

Cambodia and Malaysia have both rejected demands to turn ASEAN into an anti China alliance. Mahathir told the Americans to go screw themselves when they ask Malaysia to adopt an anti China stance, and America's actions in Iraq and Afghanistan have made it unpopular. Cambodia rejected all initiatives by Vietnam and the Philippines to bring up the south China sea dispute at ASEAN.

Some Ethnic minorities in Myanmar hate the Burmese government and love China and Chinese things instead. In Wa state the Wa people use Chinese language, currency, telecommunications and love Chinese culture while they hate everything Burmese. Their United Wa state army is backed by China. The Kachin, Karen and other minorities also hate the Burmese.

Other asian countries hate each other than with China and some don't even have a problem with China like Laos and Cambodia. The Philippine Suluks who invaded Malaysia because the Philippines claims to Sabah, a single temple of a religion nobody in Cambodia or Thailand practices has led to bloodshed between the two countries, and Laos construction fo the Xayaburi Dam threatens Cambodia and Vietnam.

Preah Vihear Temple - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Don't delude yourselves into thinking that everyone sees the same China the same way as you. China and Taiwan both reject the illegal claims of Vietnam and the Philippines in the Spratlys and view them as intruders and illegal thieves. Taiwan holds live fire drills on Taiping and ignores Vietnam's whining. The issue of the spratlys is viewed as bilateral in China and Taiwan with regards to the one China issue and all third parties like Vietnam and the Philippines are viewed as INVADERS.

The political system that have killed millions of its own people and still dictator.

Who don't provide any choice and freedom to their citizens.

who have invaded each and every neighbor or had dispute with.

Failed economic policy =/= killing. Otherwise, India is killing its own people now since there are so many children dying form malnutrition.

Also comparing failed economic policy with killing of native Americans is wrong. Killing is deliberate act, while politicians that implemented failed economic or social policy didn't intend to kill people, did they? As much as I dislike Mao's economic and social policies, we have to be fair and stop calling him killer.

I wouldn't call it inferiority complex. I don't think most Chinese feel inferior to Westerners or other Asians, at least I don't. I would rather say some Chinese might have "victimization" complex. They feel they have been wronged in the past, so they cling to that victim mentality.

But alas, this world belongs to the mighty. It's better for Chinese people to get rid of victimization complex and stand tough. No more blaming games, blaming only makes you weak and doesn't serve any purpose in today's world.

Also could you please cite any study that shows "many of our neighbors" "despise China? Or did you just judge based on member posts in this forum? I have quite a few Korean friends, so at least I know my Korean friends don't despise China. Well not sure about other countries so I won't make judgement. But at least I can tell you , there are many many Koreans and Japanese now live in China. Also, protecting one's interest and bickering in diplomacy =/=despise.

No it won't,at leat not nowadays China! Why? With all their flaws the americans are still a democracy ,if public opinion hears of heinous crimes they go against the goverment(see abu ghraib, etc),they even go against some wars(see vietnam war),they can do terrible things but they can't go unchecked. Will some one check China this way at home if they were to replace the americans. Most likely no,and even if they did they would be steamrolled by tanks,Tien An Men square style.

Neither you nor flamer84 knows the feelings or psyche of 1.3 billion people.

India had been blaming Britain for decades since colonization for is problems. India also invaded Goa and Daman and Diu despite them never having been part of the British Raj because they were angry that a western power was still owning land on the Indian subcontinent. Legally the invasion was illegitimate because those territories weren't leased, they were conquered direclt hundreds of years before a the state of India was formed.

"Superpower" status includes more than just having the largest GDP or spending the most on military.

All the Anglo-Saxon powers, Soviet Union or whoever else preceded them, had some ideology to propagate around the world.

What is China's official ideology? Merely copying one aspect from the now defunct Soviet Union (one party authoritarian state), and amalgamating that with another aspect of now dying USA (capitalism) does nothing to justify the claim that China will be a 'superpower'.

You have to offer new ideas, new ways of thoughts, a "renaissance" of sorts, a new lifestyle and ideology to the world's population. If anybody has visited or followed Mainland China in the last few years, then they would know that the population is so enamoured of the West and blindly worships the Westerners they will sell their ownselves at anybody remotely looking like a Westerner (from the average Chinese person's perspective).

A superpower must comprise of citizens that are self confident, and that is a net-provider of new ideas, thoughts, lifestyle and concepts to the world.

China's very close to surpassing the dying USA in GDP, but neither its politicians, its diplomats, its media, think tanks, scientists or the public are prepared to chart their own course. They will take at least another decade, or more, to find their own footing before they may think about exerting themselves confidently around the world.

This last sentence, a big assumption, is based on the dubious presupposition that other players will not strengthen themselves as a reaction to the rising power of China, and pre-empt China's assertiveness in global affairs.

The future is always uncertain, anyway.

EVerything you've said will come in time, China is still developing, it's ideology is still on the board. It may not be able to export it's ideology, but it's already trying to export it's culture and language. Those may have heavy influence from western civilization, but that will change in time. It was inevitable that the chinese would adopt western culture to an extent, as the US has been the sole global power for the last 30+ years. Once China gets to the next level (whatever that may be) to achieve superpower status, then nationalism and national culture will become more and more important to the Chinese people, meanwhile, western culture will slowly start filtering out of China. Once that happens, China's culture and language will not only be exported to other nations, but it will expand in those nations drastically.

Unless China ends up like Japan did, I doubt that China will not become a superpower.

Sorry for bad grammar and spelling mistakes, my head is killing me :(

Well, let those things that you have hoped for, materialize first, then we can talk about China becoming a superpower.

European Union has long had a larger GDP than the United States, yet EU is no superpower, simply because it does not send a single, coherent political signal to other political units around the world.

And, in the future, anything can happen. Even the more populous countries in the Muslim world might be able to come together and form a more active and meaningful bloc. The oil and sand rich kingdoms can simply be taken over (their kings and queens left to roam around freely in the Empty Quarters, or Rub' Al Khali), and with a unique 'ideology' of our own, Muslims can become the sole superpower at that time, if anything.

The future is very uncertain, all that we know for certain right now, is that China is close to surpassing the USA in GDP. That alone is not good enough.

For example, GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) has long had a much higher GDP and defence expenditure than so called "Israel", yet when it comes to scientific and technological prowess, military experience and innovation, military industry, military power, the bedouins can't even hold a candle to the so called "Israeli" refugees mostly from Europe.

Fail. The current great wall was built during the Ming dynasty 500 years ago. The others were just earth ramparts.

Great wall of China:
Construction and General Information of the Great Wall of China
The Great Wall of China began construction during the year 221 B.C. It was built using countless rock and stone slabs with bricks covering the sides. Most of the wall was about 20 feet wide and 15 to 30 feet high depending on the terrain. Also towers were installed about every 100 to 200 yards apart. These towers were around 40 feet high and served as lookout posts. After over 1000 years of building and renevating the Great Wall of China was finished during the Ming Dynasty around the 1500s. During the construction over 2 million men died, many of who were entombed inside the great wall itself. The Great Wall is the longest structure ever built and at one point was 6,000 kilometers long.
The Great Wall was started in 221 B.C. to 1500s. The Great Wall was also built to keep the semi-nomadic people's horses out of China from stealing goods. The Wall was also built to keep the stolen goods inside. It was also built to protect China from the Mongolians for protection. The Great Wall was started by the emperor Qin Shi Huangdi. The Great Wall took over 1000 years to build and renovate. The Great Wall of China is also called "Wan-Li Qang-Qeng". Which means in english is 10,000 Li-wang walls.

You are joking right? What part of China is communist other than the name? Capitalism is nothing new, it has happened for thousands of years. It wasn't new when Americans had it and it wasn't new to China when we once again adopted it.

Chinese writing system, literature, lifestyle, clothing, food and this and that has been adopted throughout the centuries by other countries.

You may not know because it looks western, but a lot of new Chinese styles are in fact Chinese, western inspired perhaps, but they remain Chinese.

As to worshiping westerners, that was way back in the 90s, and early 2000s. With the opening up of China many knows what the west really is. As to western products, there are various reasons on why western products are preferred. But it is not the reason you think it is.

And good stuff is good stuff, BMWs, and Gucci are really top of the line, not just in China, but any where.

China is the world's largest alcohol consuming country and yet, wine only makes up a small amount, so you can see that to be westernized is to seem modern, but we are still very much Chinese and as our brands get more recognition, that day is soon.

See Chinese first lady and effect on Chinese luxury brands.

However a Ferrari and Benz is cool in the states too, are you saying US isn't a super power.

China is buying up land, sending workers and engineers all over the world. Ask Africa. China is selling Chinese company stocks all over the world and we are openly going against the West, see Syria.

We are doing things in space, perhaps not things that haven't been done yet, but at current trend, that day is close.

We are going our own course, hence we didn't go with the EU when they fell, and our model is not exactly done anywhere else in the world, so I'm not sure who we copied.

Your argument for strengthening themselves is stupid, you think people don't know self strengthening is good, and needs China to remind them? No, if they could do it they would have done it by now.

Also which country other than India and sort of US can actually match China in terms of men power and resources and things of this nature.

Your post shows how little you know of China, and of the world really.

Lastly, do you know what it takes to have the biggest GDP and military? I'm not sure you understand. How can someone not innovate and not lead to have the biggest GDP? How is that even possible?

This is like saying you graduated school, but failed every course. These things are not mutually exclusive.

@Coltsfan

Indians earn even less, are you unaware of this fact? Please don't pretend you are developed when you are less so than us.

BTW, even if we some how lose everything it still won't help India any, so worry about yourself dude.
