Dr. Shahid Masood mentioned in his latest t.v program that one thing that must be acknowledged is that the main reason the Americans are interested in getting Pakistan's help with the problem of the Afghan Taliban is because the Afghan Taliban are willing to listen to Pakistan.

This is despite the fact that the Afghan government is vehemently opposed to Pakistan and is pro India. Yet they are virtually being ignored in terms of the Afghan peace process.

So my question is why are the Afghan Taliban willing to listen to Pakistan when they easily could directly negotiate given that they brought the Americans to the table through a long hard military resistance?

Isnt the answer in ur question?, do u still really think it was the Afghan Taliban as an independent group that brought the US to the negotiating table?

No he does NOT mean that. There is something called geographic determinsm. That is your geography has strong effect on the evolution of people. It is no absolute as other variables apply but is is still potent. most of Afghanistan is natural extention of the Indus region. So is small part of India [Punjab mainly] but ony about 3% of Indians live in the Indus region. Whereas a good chunk of Afghan population including their capital Kabul falls in indus region. You may not like this but i can assure you the future of K-Pk is deeply intertwined with the Kabul region of Afghanistan through trade and people 2 people contact. Because as I mentioned whereas the two Punjabs are divided by religion the two Afganias are united by ethncity and religion.

Your first post was more than enough for him to understand even the map of Indus and Kabul rivers which you share in your post was more than enough .... but I don't know why he completely ignore it

Secondly he completely misread my post as I was not talking about the Origin of River Kabul or Indus but was hinting about their course of flow of Kabul river and it is a historic fact that course of river flow impacts history of civilisation. Its may be a blessing or as well as curse, but in our case since 1979 it is proved as a CURSE to us, and we don't know what is still hidden in Future and because of this reason Peace and Stability in Afghanistan means more to Pakistan than to Afghans

Future of Pakistan will have positive or negative impacts from the developments which may occur in Afghanistan as you rightly said in your post that we are intertwined

Again, no. I don't know why I'm explaining this but Kabul runs from Afghanistan into Pakistan so Afghanistan should listen to Pakistan. Likewise, since the other rivers (Mainly Ravi, Sutlej and Chenab) run from India into Pakistan, India should listen to Pakistan and not the other way around.

BTW, two seemingly perfect analogies aren't always related. Read Indus Pakistan's post#71.
