Why are the Afghan Taliban listening to Pakistan?

Dr. Shahid Masood mentioned in his latest t.v program that one thing that must be acknowledged is that the main reason the Americans are interested in getting Pakistan's help with the problem of the Afghan Taliban is because the Afghan Taliban are willing to listen to Pakistan.

This is despite the fact that the Afghan government is vehemently opposed to Pakistan and is pro India. Yet they are virtually being ignored in terms of the Afghan peace process.

So my question is why are the Afghan Taliban willing to listen to Pakistan when they easily could directly negotiate given that they brought the Americans to the table through a long hard military resistance?
This is the simplest answer: Because the Taliban's successful survival, existence and sustenance(political and military) is directed and managed by Pakistan(biggest share of it).

Evidence that Pakistani govt supports the Taliban in major ways? Look at where Taliban leadership lives. They are mostly in Pakistan. nuff said. im out.

Only reason Pakistan is relevant for US is Afghan issue until Afghanistan issue is not solved Pakistan will stay relevant for US
US will also keep eye on Pakistan as long as militant Islamic groups members are there or getting support. Good ex is AQ. We all know Ayman Zawahiri is still in Pakistan now, so for issues like this, US will keep eye on Pakistan. ALso Nukes- SInce US preferred Pakistan to have no nukes and Pakistan has it now, US will keep eyes on Pakistan to make sure no non- Pakistani govt entity receives or steals Pakistani nuclear weapons.

You forgot Iranian Talibans
If you remove Iranian support for Taliban the Taliban will still be successful. If you remove Pakistani support for Taliban, Taliban will either collapse some years later, or look for another "daddy" patron, most like Iran to help them survive, weaponize, treat wounded, regroup, network, learn skills etc.
But naturally, i expect Iran to come out with its own "fair share" of resources, access, benefits after NATO Troops pull out. this will accelerate and increase if Pakistan's economy and political stability falters.

One thing Indians like you forget that Taliban don't need Pakistani support to keep fighting as they have shown in last decade. The dream of taliban collapsing if Pakistan stopped supporting them is long dead and Americans have finally realised.

india will lose kashmir and eventually whole india will come under Muslim rule.I think india end is near
My friend you really need to reconfigure your entire mental thinking process. It was NOT the Muslims who conquered India. It was Turkic Central Asians from Uzbekistan, Kazakstan and from Afghan tribes.

If anything the danger is India might gobble up the Muslim world.

Winning in Kashmir would be score of the century.

Please keep in mind that even while USA was nurturing India, it did not abandon Pakistan completely, and conversely, now that it is rejuvenating its relationship with Pakistan, it will not stop nurturing India completely.
Honestly we never could hinder Indias progress or benefits it receives - we should only look for our own advantage. As shown on Feb 27 skirmish and the sustained pressure on LOC, we know how to handle India despite their imported gadgets.

to those who accept objective truths, this is a fat lie. US military has already said that the presence of safe havens in Pakistan sustain the Taliban. This is the reason US govt under Trump has reduced or stopped military sales to Pakistan. Why else?

You're talking hypothetically here. Let Pakistan actually stop supporting the Taliban and then we will know. ISI wont stop doing that unless something really serious happens or threatens to happen.

US didn't stop military fund even when they were blaming us for Taliban. Only when Trump came did they stop giving CFS. If US actually had any evidence of Pakistan supporting taliban then they would have put sanctions which would have collapsed Pakistan economy.

What US wanted was for Pakistan to fight their war in Afghanistan. Now they too have realised military solution isn't possible in Afghanistan and have accepted our position.

Trump wanted same from Modi which is why he made fun of him when he talked about that library in Kabul. Once he realised India isn't going to do anything useful for peace in Afghanistan and is supa powa only on paper, then he turned towards Pakistan.

Actually by that logic, India too should listen to us.
well his logic seemed flawed to me!

@Indus Pakistan now...now... let us not bring Pak too much down... I get what you say... merit in it. I won't deny.

However, failing to realise that Pakistan is The Heartland is also a strategic error. It is indeed the context that creates value in any model...

Pakistan is The Heartland I repeat... and it is also True that part of Afghanistan is unalienable part of Wadi e Sind Tehzeeb.

The Afghan resistence i.e. Talibans have been successful because of Pakistan
... Ref: Hamid Gul.

It was Our War in the First Afghan War and it was/is Our War in the Second Afghan War.
...

Let us keep the Lips of Wisdom sealed for how much we also suffered and paid for it..both inside Aghanistan and in The Heartland Pakistan...

A Peaceful, Stable and Prosperous Heartland is in the interest of China, Russia and the US.

What is Critical is some wisdom, foresightedness in Statecraft on Pakistan's side... we need to have a Marshal Plan for The Heartland and of course, Afghanistan...

However, an anti-Pakistan Afghanistan is not acceptable and shall NEVER be allowed.

Gagnadeshi speaking 'Afghan' leaders are most welcome to move to UP to enjoy the Glow of Freedom with Yoggi.

Shapping of History takes place in moments... only the wisest can Shape History!
