Man, now I know why japanese anime and video games usually have you kill gods and such, it's probably influenced by this thought of surpassing gods.
All the Chinese gods were first human beings and then became gods because of his great contribution to the nation.
There are no gods born as gods in Chinese culture.
For example, Emperor Yan, who invented herbal medicine and ploughing wheat and rice. That's why he was honoured as the God of the South, the Sun God, the deity in charge of agriculture and medicine.

For example, Fuxi, who invented music, fishing, hunting, and cooking. That's why he was used as the god of the East, the god of creation.

There's another thing about Chinese gods. If you believe in him, he won't promise you anything. If you don't believe in him, he won't punish you. He is your ancestor, a relative, a friend, not your master.
If you've paid attention, you'll notice that the gods killed by humans in those East Asian novels you've read all have one thing going for them, these gods want to be masters of humans. Any god that thinks that way is automatically classified as an enemy.
