Why and how does Japanese entertainment become so poor in recent years?

Japanese entertainment has been popular before 2000
after that, it is becoming weaker and weaker in influence outside Japan.
Nowadays, Japan only has influence in anime
its dramas/movies and music are not so popular in Asia, far behind Korea.

The same for Hong Kong.

I really enjoyed the old Anime series like Berserk, Trigun, Fushigi Yuugi, Neon genesis and Nadesico. Then came the dreaded year 2000 and everything went downhill. Animation looks even worse and cheap and the characters look more and more generic. The old days like the 80s and 90s were best for Japanese animation.

Remember GTO? It came out in 2000 and was (in my opinion) the best Anime series ever. A final bang of glory before the shit storm of mediocrity, pretentious crap and half arsery.

The reason is simple enough：economic downturn.

Video game industry and movie industry which need the most budget to operate，also took the most hit.

Animes which are cheaper to make，is doing OK.

While the one entertainment which need the lowest budget, the p0rn industry，is flourishing！

Japan is elitist in their Products. they focuses on their own people first, the rest of the world second. notice that LOTS of japanese games and Visual Novels hardly gets outside of Japan. there are various reasons why they didn't localize it outside Japan. one particular problem that i know, is that they don't really care much about the outside world.

do note that Japanese Movies, Games and all are HEAVILY censored in the west. some obvious western country also fucked up their Movies BIG TIME. some great examples

the world isn't ready (and never be ready) to accept Japan's Fanservices and all.

Gundam was a big 80s hit , so was robotech and Akira , i hate americans but i gotta agree Japanese anime started to suck from the late 90s , maybe the japanese still love it , but it's more fun to watch king of the hill or south park than any Japanese anime out there , these days

not really. they have been Isolationist since old times. i have been playing MANY japanese RPGs and Visual Novels and i say they aren't much interested to the people that isn't Japanese. you need to wonder how many of Fan Translations out there translating their non-localized games, either Legally or illegaly. some links

Gundam is good. but the Gundam that i mentioned above isn't a Gundam. it's G Savior, made by Canadian. it's a 2001 crap movie made without Sunrise and Tomino's approval. you wanna see how bad it is? check it out!
