Sehwag was an aggressive test batsman and he made two test triple hundreds. Hence, I do rate him as a test opener.

However, Viv made runs against all opposition. The most destructive batsman of all-time. Hooking Devon Malcolm for sixes at the age of nearly 38 in test matches.

Examples:
Viv scored 101, 98, 50, 30 in the last two tests as an opener against Lillee, Thomson, Gilmour, and Mallett, at an average of 69.75 in 1975/76.Thomson was at his fastest and Lillee was bowling very well, although he slowed down a little after his back injury in 1972/73. Lillee was still recorded at 96.2 mph in a study in 1976. Thomson was recorded at 99.8 mph in this study.

Viv scored 80 from 39 balls against Wasim, Qadir and Imran, in an odi in 1985.

Viv scored a 56 ball hundred test century against England in 1986.

Viv scored 189 against England in an odi in England in 1984.

Viv scored 181 against Sri Lanka in the 1987 World Cup.

Viv's test series batting average was 72.80, touring Pakistan in 1980, against Imran, Qadir and Sarfaraz.

Viv's test series batting average was 69.50 in West Indies in 1988, against Imran, Wasim and Qadir.
That's some record.

.
Unfortunately I saw very little of Viv and what I did, he was way past his prime. The most destructive batsman I've seen in tests has been Sehwag. Could turn a test in a session. Absolutely destructive with an average of just under 50 - and 2 triple centuries and also a 290.[/QUO
Imrans ave has heen inflated due to a high number of n.o.

You are entitled to your opinion. I hold Imran Khan as the best bowling all-rounder. Richie Benaud regards him highly and placed him in his greatest test team.

That's some record.

Yes it is.

More stats.

Viv made 192 not out v Bedi, Prasanna, Venkataraghavan in his first test series in West Indies tour of India of 1974.

He also made 50 against Bedi, Prasanna, Chandrasekhar in the 4th test. His test series average was 50.42.

Even in West Indies tour of Pakistan in 1986, Viv averaged 35. That was the second highest test series batting average after Haynes who had a test series batting average of 37.25. Nobody else averaged 30 apart from Haynes and Richards. Miandads average was 29.33. It was a low scoring series.

That's some record.

I believe Viv Richards scored a hundred against most fast bowlers he faced, including his own West indian quicks.

In 1985, Viv at Taunton, playing for Somerset v Hampshire, against Malcolm Marshall, Viv scored 186.

In 1990, Viv at Southampton, playing for Glamorgan v Hampshire, against Malcolm Marshall, Viv Richards scored 164 not out.
