After Golkar Nominated Gibran as Vice Presidential Candidate, BEM SI Immediately Demonstrated Again to Reject Dynastic Politics
Previously, thousands of BEM SI students held a demonstration against dynastic politics.
Crowds from the BEM SI Alliance held a Royal Palace march in the Horse Statue area, Jakarta, Friday (20/10/2023). Action to provide an evaluation of the nine years of President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) administration. The students also highlighted a number of problems that have occurred so far. The action lasted until evening, the protesters dispersed around 20.00 PM.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The All-Indonesian Student Executive Board (BEM SI) will hold further demonstrations to reject dynastic politics. This was in response to the political party's decision to nominate the Mayor of Solo who is also the eldest son of Indonesian President Joko Widodo, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as Prabowo Subianto's vice presidential candidate.
BEM SI Central Coordinator Hilmi Ash Shidiqi admitted that he was disappointed with the Golkar Party which carried Gibran's name to run as Prabowo's vice presidential candidate on Saturday (21/10/2023).
Moreover, this happened after thousands of students from BEM SI had just carried out a demonstration in the Horse Statue area, Central Jakarta, Friday (20/10/2023). One of his demands was to reject dynastic politics. "However, now we see that yesterday we spoke out loud, now H+1 after voicing it turns out that what we voiced was just a warning that was ignored by the political players. Of course we will continue to voice this loudly. We reject all efforts by political dynasties which are being built and want to be built," said Hilmi when contacted by Republika.co.id, Saturday (21/10/2023).
Hilmi emphasized that his party does not want dynastic politics in Indonesia. So that the students who are members of the student executive body together with the community will continue to voice their rejection, including holding further demonstrations. "We will consolidate further (follow-up demonstrations)," he stressed. Previously, the Golkar Party officially nominated Solo Mayor Gibran Rakabuming as Prabowo Subianto's running mate.
This official position was announced at the National Leadership Meeting (Rapimnas) of the Golkar Party at the party headquarters with the banyan tree logo, Palmerah, West Jakarta, Saturday (21/10/2023). In the National Rapimnas which was also attended by Prabowo, the General Chair of the Golkar Party, Airlangga Hartarto, said that his party had discussed it carefully and prioritized greater interests in determining the vice presidential candidate. He also had a meeting with all the Golkar Party DPD chairs on Friday (20/10/2023) evening.
