Who will reform Islam?

islam says...''keep your horses ready..""when ever a muslim country tries to make his defence better they calls him ''axis of evil'' and when they are making bombs then the bombs are for peace....this is the result to not following the islam.....

Islam doesn't need to reform. It is a perfect religion, sent by god.

What needs to be done is clearing up of propaganda and terrorism teaching in madarsaas. Politics and Relgion should always be seprate.

There is no doubt that Islam is perfect religion. However the question is not what Islam is supposed to be but the way it is practiced in Pakistan. As an example, an article in the editorial of todays 'Dawn' is reproduced below. Is this the correct practice of Islam?. If MMA succeeds that is the kind of religious repression we should expect all over Pakistan. Why there are no demonstrations and strikes planned against the practices described in the article? Because this is what our MMA leaders such as Qazi Hussain Ahmad and Fazlur Rahman believe is the true practice of Islam.

Islam as ordained by Allah needs no reform but as practiced by a lot muslims in Pakistan certainly is in an urgent need of reform. Look at the noise by the religious elements. They claim the cosmetic ammendment in the Hudood laws will promote immoralty. The Hudood ordinace only came into being in 1979. There was far less immorality before than what is now. I rest my case.

Taliban excesses

THINGS have not settled down in North Waziristan despite a peace agreement that was brokered in September between the government and the tribal leaders. Take Tuesday’s incident in Miramshah. Members of the local Taliban showed up at a bookshop, owned by a senior journalist and burnt copies of newspapers they alleged carried an offensive news item about an encounter with security forces in which four Taliban men died. More worrisome is the fact that they also took into ‘custody’ the bookshop owner’s son. Mercifully, the son was released three hours later after his father pleaded and explained that he was in no way responsible for what was printed in some newspapers. As it turned out, the “offensive” news item was an old report about an encounter that had taken place in April but because of some technical fault, it appeared on an international news website before it was picked up and reprinted by a local agency. That such an error could provoke the Taliban’s ire shows their inability to think and behave rationally. They may have laid down their arms against the government but they have decided to form their own form of governance, issuing edicts that are clearly against the country’s laws. They now say they will not allow the distribution of newspapers for two days - and no one can dare challenge them.

This is not all. Local Taliban leaders are issuing all kinds of warnings to girls against going to school, against lady health workers and NGOs doing good work in the area and so forth. This medieval approach must be challenged or things are going to go from bad to worse for residents of the area. As things stand, tribal areas in and around the NWFP have the most dismal statistics for unemployment, child mortality, education and healthcare. If the Taliban continue to wield their obscurantist influence, there will be no hope left for the areas’ people.

Islam as it is practiced today needs reform. Break the word down, "Re" "form". It can be assumed that the current form has already changed due to the corruption brought about by time.

To say that Islam cannot be reformed with the presence of an existing, unchanged Quran is to say that Islam has more to do with what we remember about the Prophet than what it has to do with what is solidly written and not changed (whereas there are doubts to what there is in the hadiths) in the Quran.

Everything that the Prophet taught was taught from what was said in the Quran. So we can self-teach by reading the Quran too. and basically re form to something that is applicable to the present times and non-contradictory to the Quran. Every single Ayat of the Quran with its translation is available on the net. Get reading!

Who will reform Islam? Everybody. Any one person who embarks on a journey to do so, would end up promoting his/her political agenda.

Islam is and will reamin a complete religion.Muslims need reform.special intrest groups that have hijacked the religion.are changing it to suit there needs and intrests dosent mean Islam is out of touch.

Guys Islam is reforming/evolving whether you like it or not. The Koran bans images, yet how many of you have passports, driver licences, or some other form of picture ID?

What about verse sof the Koran that are medically, or scientifically impossible? Does the fallibility of ancient knowledge unhinge the entire faith or will a new paradigm develop?

Will real scholars step up and end the persistent lies so many Muslims beleive?

Will Islam bring itself into line with the UNUDHR (UN Universal Declaration on Human Right)?

It does not. It is generally an Islamic practice not to create an image of something living.

What about verse sof the Koran that are medically, or scientifically impossible?

There are very few as such. Most verses are proven scientifically. Nothing is impossible. Even the one about the sperm being created from the rib was proven to have some scientific relevance recently. There are veins interconnecting the lung area around the veins with the testicles.

Does the fallibility of ancient knowledge unhinge the entire faith or will a new paradigm develop?
New paradigms are always developed. Islam incorporates and conforms with religion. Islam supports iVF, it supports stem cell research, it does not dispute the idea of extraterrestrial life. Basically it highly encourages to keep an open mind to have new ideas.

Very few SCIENTIFIC contradictions exist any more, even though the Quran not once claims to be a book of science. It merely claims to be a book that would be relevant. Of course our own scientific understanding may be limited to prove that relevance at all times.

Quran attacked alcohol, spoke of rights for women, spoke of racism, spoke the individual equality in rights. It did not give a methodical vision of why so and so should be since its not meant for that, these practices weren't understood and were rejected at some point or the other. As our worldly knowledge evolves it keeps proving the relevance of the Quran. Again not in one place would you see the Quran claim to be a book of science.

Will real scholars step up and end the persistent lies so many Muslims beleive?
Like any other religion we'd re-evaluate and conform with science as science tells us more and more. But of course just because/as science is yet to prove the existence of God, we'd not reject God's existence.

Will Islam bring itself into line with the UNUDHR (UN Universal Declaration on Human Right)?
We created the term Human Rights... In a manner of speaking. Around 1400 years ago. People just don't have a good understanding of it. So your question should be will we uphold what we should according to Islam? Like everybody else we aren't absolute followers of our faith. We err, we sin, we stumble and we fall. The idea is to keep on with constant self-correction.

A Rahman is a case in point, he automatically assumes any non-muslim talking about Islam is attacking it. This pre-disposistion blocks debates and creates hates.

thats a strecth as every part of the body is linked with viens, and the Koran repeats the Greek view that sperm come form the testes. Ther eis alos the reverse order of formation found in the Koran where the bones are created befor e the flesh when we now now the bones are the last organ to develop.

It does not matter if there is only 1 mistakes or hundreds, It destroys the myth of perfection and makes Islam just another of the worlds great faiths. This is not an attack Islam is still a perfect religion for those who find it such, but so is any other faith making us all equal before God. The fact that the modern Koran has dozens of such mistakes in the realm of science, history, biology ect shows that how ever perfect the Qoran spoken by the Prophet and the perfect version of God's word in Heaven/Paradise, something was lost in translation here on earth when it was finally written down after he died. More was lost/corrupted over time as the language matured. Since the modern Koran cannot and is not 100% correct it cannot condem another faith.

Yet many muslims do just that, even condemming other muslims of diferent sects (violenace in Iraq). The modern muslim world apears to be going through the types of violence found in Christianty during the reformation. That is a huge amount of useless slaughter.

New paradigms are always developed. Islam incorporates and conforms with religion. Islam supports iVF, it supports stem cell research, it does not dispute the idea of extraterrestrial life. Basically it highly encourages to keep an open mind to have new ideas.

Islam might, but to many Muslim's (and people of every faith) dont.

Like any other religion we'd re-evaluate and conform with science as science tells us more and more. But of course just because/as science is yet to prove the existence of God, we'd not reject God's existence.

100% agree

The early Christian church would disagree with you about human rights. But I agree that constant self correction is the key.

In this area far to many muslims have closed thier minds. Getting them talking to people of other faiths and letting them see the shared humanity is critical in countering both the terrorists and the imperialists.

Unless pf course the terrorist win and we truly to end up in a war of civillisations.
