The poor ASI and HC are overpowered and they can't fire any warning shots either. Even if you produced a video that shows the Lal Masjid fanatics starting the fire-fight, butchering a soldier and even holding onto immense amounts of ammo, the apologists and sympathizers will not stop defending them.

I find it highly objectionable though that everybody (Lal Masjid, TTP, Swat Taliban, etc) is labeled Khariji/Takiri by sane people. If we start labeling them this way, then we are dropping to their levels for they use similar labels to justify violence against us.

Avoid labeling others. Use educated and rational arguments to develop a coherent case against them rather than resorting to labels than have roots in religious heresy.

As far as these pseudo-Jihadis are concerned the Lal Masjid storming by the security forces was a 9/11 against the Jihadis.

Of course these jihadis provoked 9/11. No matter how many Chinese 'brothels' were operating in Islamabad these jihadis had no right to abduct citizens and hold the children library/school under their occupation.

Pakistani nation was rightly provoked and wanted action and Musharraf (finally) obliged when the Zia ul Haq's leftovers like Ijaz ul Haq, Ch. Shujaat and some other in the media were apologetic about the Burqah Mafia.

But equally bad is the role of Pakistan's media who gave voice to the so-called Ghazi mullah before his death. Thanks to the role of these idiots in the media, the role of some judges who are quick to take up NRO but soft on these jihadis, the role of Zia-ist politicians Pakistan is under severe attacks.

PS. During my last trip to Karachi about 7 months ago I met a couple of good folks through some relative. They were decent people by my understanding. But when it came to Lal Masjid they furiously blamed the Musharraf govt. When I pointed out that kidnappings and hostage-taking/occupation was done before the govt. took action one of them said: 'Yes, that was a mistake by the religious people'. I retorted that it was not just a 'mistake' but an act of 'terrorism' done by the jihadis. The guys were silent to that. Such kind of mentality is perhaps all too common in Pakistan.

The reason the conspiracy theories abound is because people listen and without analyzing or verifying, pass this trash on to someone else. The more junk and conspiracies people read about, the greater the victimization feeling, as if we are so special that everyone is after us in the world. Someone should tell our people that they should have more confidence in themselves. Amreeki saazishain makes Amreeka not a country but a god in our part of the world without people ever realizing that no matter what Amreeka or anyone else does, things don't necessarily go their way (or for that matter the amreeki may not even be doing some of the things attributed to them).

In the Muslim world, our country's literacy rate is one of the lowest. It is a testament to our potential that despite this massive handicap, we still produce world class professionals in almost every field. What is really heartbreaking is all of the underutilized potential in this country of ours.

Why it is so hard to understand that no government can allow possession and deployment of illegal arms and ammunition by any person or group under any circumstance ? Compliance to the law is the only solution to avoid bloodshed like the one in Lal Madjid. Government will do anything in it's capacity to enforce the rule of law when the national security is threatened.

however,having said that both sides acted impulsively!! government of pakistan could have done the OPERATION ANYTIME!! there was no doubt about the governments power! they could have tried to diffuse the situation without the use of "force"

The intro from the outset was enough to convince me this was uploaded by someone who was posting this video to strengthen his/her already pre-conceived position on the whole saga rather than to really investigate what had happened. Just as a quick counter though, there's several videos on youtube of police officers being beaten by lawyers in suites in broad daylight during the sacking of the chief minister etc. One beaten with his own stick.

My current position as it stands is that I don't have an opinion on the whole incident as I haven't studied it in enough depth nor have I read up on it enough to form an opinion - despite the fact I was in Pakistan at the time this whole fiasco unfolded. We're hundreds killed? Was the operation a success? Was it the right thing to do? Was their a cover up of fatalities? All these are questions that will argued till the cows come home.

I think the sensible thing to do now is to move on from this as a lot of people have strong views and there's no use in reigniting old flames.
