Pick and choose.

1. United States Sixth Fleet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

2. Black Sea Fleet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - technically not in the Med, but they make their way around.

Turkey, Italy and France would round out my top 5, Spain is sixth (I don't know what order, you guys can decide. I like France over Turkey, but would accept the converse as well). Israel has a strong, but limited fleet (good subs), Egypt too, but all others are either small in size or lack the sophistication of the other contenders.

And yes, the title of the thread does allow me to be a smarta**:partay: - best in the Mediterranean not best of Mediterranean nations:enjoy:.

Black Sea is not Med sea. In war time, Russia would be locked in the Black Sea because of the straits. That is why I didn't put Russia in the list. By the way, Russia's black sea fleet is very outdated. There were plans to upgrade it but I don't think that is possible anymore.

It depends under a lot of circumstances. But Russian Black Sea Fleet certainly is not at TOP 3. Best one would be France. As for the USN, she's the most powerful navy that the world has ever seen but unlike oceans, in Mediterranean, logistics are not taken into consideration as much as it is in the oceans since it's not a blue water and USN totally relies on allied naval stations for that.

1- France (the only blue water navy in the region)

2- Turkey

3- Spain (small fleet with high displacement ratio)

3- Italy (weak logistics)

4- Greece

5- Israel (surface fleet is weak, relies on submarine force)

Israel relies heavily on their Air superiority provide by their air force to cover their surface fleet

was gonna say the same. A single US aircraft-carrier group is stronger than most navies in the world.

. .
1) France a large margin (nuclear subs, CATOBAR nuclear aircraft carrier).
2) Italy (balanced with STOVL aircraft carriers, powerful Aster-30 frigates)
3) Turkey (strong submarine fleet, weak surface compare to Italy and Spain).
4) Spain (very weak submarine fleet).
5) Greece (quite large and balanced navy)
6) Israel (small but modern)
7-8) Egypt/Algeria (Egypt has large but old surface fleet, junk submarines, Algeria has quite modern subs)

Egypt (Med <> Red Sea/Gulf of Aden)
Spain (Atlantic <> Med)
France (Global <> Atlantic <> Med)
Russia (Black Sea <> Med)
US (Global <> Atlantic <> Med <> Indian Ocean <> Gulf)

Add Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden as well. Just checked the daily reports from TAF.
