What's new

Who benefits from PIA demise?

That seems like an odd strategy.. instead of maintaining the current fleet, buy new aircraft so that they too can be left parked on the tarmac after a few flights and then foreclose to the banks.
Maybe not odd for somebody out to make a lot of bucks.

The jumbos are way past their life, and they are going to be taken off. The older A310's might also get the budge.
PIA now, is focusing more on the short-haul routes, rather than go for the 4 engined, expensive to maintain Boeing 747.

.
Even private airlines such a jet n kingfisher are in a mess!!!
So how will privatisation will help air india or PIA???
The private sectoer is now very much vary of entering into civil aviation sector !!!
But somehow indigo n spicejet made profitability though less !!!

Well.. the moi-expensive 777's are also rusting away now.

I traveled on PIA's 777 when they were first inducted and then again last December and the difference was striking. From the outside, even an untrained eye could notice a...well...general lack of maintenance as far as the appearance was concerned. Inside, it was a complete disaster; the washroom closest to me was out of order for a 14 hour flight, and my TV remote didn't work and I think the TV itself didn't do anything either...when that's the state of an aircraft that is only half a decade old and was the flagship product of one of the most efficient and high quality aircraft manufacturers...you got a serious problem.

. .
2 777 and 3 ATR's are grounded for lack of spares
5 737's are grounded - these are obsolete!
3 747's are grounded - obsolete
5 Airbus 310/300 are grounded

18/49 planes grounded.

PIA's staff : aircraft ratio is 400:1
the international norm is 100:1
no wonder its gone bankrupt!!!

.
the main reason was buying those crap 777 . PIA engineers dont wanted those planes they wanted air buses to be inducted so they can maintain in-house but the buddy /poddle of Bush decided to keep running boeing which was in trouble those days 2004/05

The 777's are atleast new, well atleast not old.

The jumbos are vintage in terms of aviation age.

The real issue is gross mismanagement and incompetence, not the age of the planes. There are planes from the sixties still flying profitably around the world.

those who are fussed about zardaris sister co unknown indus airways .. should also try and notice the other pakistani as well as foriegn air carriers we have servicing the pakistani passengers and offcourse they are the primary reason why PIA is facing huge losses. These include :

Air Blue
Shaheen airlines
air arabia
flydubai
emirates
eitehad

Well, the PIA is really, really, really ( really) over staffed. Sifarish, bribe, everything goes.

Don't know why you need this much staff, 40,000 to be precise, for just around 40 odd planes.

If Emirates airlines seats 40% capacity passengers and flies from Dubai to Isl, it is in profit, but if PIA seats 200% people, and flies the same route, it is still in loss.

That is exactly not the reason.

You have more airlines operating, you get taxes, you get money from them for standing on the taxiway, for every minute spent on Pakistani airspace.

This way, PIA is also ruining other international airlines by flying in their countries. You need to have competition to be successful mate. Not a very good logic you put up there.

The people and the fat cats refused to privatize a parasitic industry..so the best option is to leave it on its own and encourage private investors to start new ventures..as simple as that. I never fly from PIA, its the worst airline ever..I am forever in love with Saudia for their direct flights to Karachi..peace of mind and fast service.
